Anyone Else Prefer DVD Box Sets To Television?

Nothing beats a DVD box set for TV shows.

However, with DVR there is a pause button and no commercials since you can record, watch later, and fast-forward through commercials, but I still prefer buying DVD box sets :)

I get a little of both worlds by watching everything on either Hulu Plus or Netflix streaming. No commercials and I can watch an entire series over the course of a week or two (which I've done with an embarrassing number of shows). Don't get the bonus features, though.

100% definitely always. Even more than the lack of commercials and ability to pause, I love the ability to watch a large chunk of episodes in one sitting. My attention span is long and I like shows with long, slow payoffs. Some shows I didn't like catching an episode here or there I liked so much more when I could sit down and watch a season. Like cameron, I also really dig Netflix streaming, particularly for shows I hadn't seen. I can give something 4 or 5 episodes, to see if I'm into it, rather than buying a box set blind, or hoping to catch an episode here or there.

here is no pause button for live TV too.

Dude, Tivo has been around for almost 12 years!

But to answer your question, yes. I much prefer to binge on a show I like, especially cliff-hangery shows like Dexter, Breaking Bad, True Blood, etc. Although now that I'm caught up with those shows I find it impossible to wait until the season is finished to watch, so I've been doing it the layman's way (ie: week to week). :)

In general DVD boxsets are very preferable because of their wide array of desirable bonus features that I often find quite interesting.

Though there is something to be said about watching a TV series week to week. Looking forward to them, coming up with predictions, discussing them with others etc. You do miss out on that with binge watching.

Binger here. No cable, no dish.

Speaking of Breaking Bad, I read that the season's finale was the finale to end all finales. I guess I'll have to wait until the season 4 DVD comes out.

The only thing I don't like about 'flix is the lack of BTS, so I'm firmly on the DVD set side - and the bigger collector series that have the extra disks with just extras, etc.

Definitely nice to have box sets, but nothing beats netflix to me, apart from the lack of some shows I'd actually like to watch. :/

Damn straight! And I do have a sweet collection, if I say so meself. :D

nothing beats netflix to me

To each his own. I personally will never do business with NetFlix for the same reason I've never set foot in a WalMart: they value quantity over quality, and will kill off the latter to guarantee the former.

Yeah I like to do this. I am working on watching all the seasons of Smallville again currently. I hate commercials and most of the time TV does not have anything on that I want to watch. I can watch way more stuff by skipping the commercials.
