@ JoshL - yeah, a real head-scratcher that is!

@ rayw

Ok, so here's the "full monty" for each listing :D

Company X

We are looking for completed feature-length intense drama scripts for a female lead, i.e. something in the vein of “Ordinary People” meets “Virginia Wolf” meets “Klute.” Submissions must be for scripts that are contemporary; no period or futuristic scripts.

Budget will not exceed $1million. WGA and non-WGA writers may submit.

Company Z

We are looking for completed feature-length extreme horror scripts. Submissions can be for material that is supernatural or paranormal in nature, but should take place in an isolated location (a house or a building or a cabin in the woods) and should involve a small cast. Note that, by "extreme," we mean scripts submitted should have a very high degree of horror, which is to say there should be more horror and less character development in the script.

Budget will not exceed $250K. WGA and non-WGA writers may submit.

intense drama!
no futuristic scripts!

extreme horror!
cabin in the woods!

now... get writing you mofo scribes!!!

more horror and less character development = just get a bunch of dumb cookie-cutter idiots somewhere isolated and gut them navel to nostril.

who cares why? who cares who? just KILL THEM AND MAKE IT BLOODY AND MAKE ME SOME MONEY, DAMMIT!!!

I almost feel inspired for this fall's MidKnightly Horror Fest.:evil::director:

Yep, got that InkTip newsletter as well, and remember thinking the same thing about the horror script request. At least they're up front about it. Like Lily Tomlin said, "No matter how cynical you get, it's impossible to keep up."

Hell yeah. If anyone has that sort of script kicking around, go for it!

I guess the request struck me as ironic after spending the last month or so reading loads of screenwriting blogs and forums about how to craft the best screenplay possible and develop characters with depth that an audience will care about.

Different strokes for sure.

* and there have been far more ridiculous and specific script requests on InkTip than those above. Wanted: soccer themed story where the main character is transexual. Script MUST be set in China. Script must not have more than 2 locations, 1 of them MUST be a barn. Main character MUST have a pet that saves the day. Pet cannot be a cat or a dog (per director's allergies). Can be a rodent or bird, marsupials OK. At least half of the script should take place at night. Actually, if ALL of the script takes place at night it will be ideal. Also good if there's a secondary character interested in time travel *BUT* only time travel into the future NOT into the past!

 I love those! And you just know some joker out there has just the thing -- or something that can be "easily adapted" to conform to those requirements...

Actually... I happen to have one sitting on my hard drive right now.
It's a pet chinese dwarf hamster, which are of course nocturnal - the ideal all night pet hero.

I will have to modify that the main character rather than the hamster is transexual rather than a hermaphrodite, though.

Ridiculous to think a writer would have that specific script finished.
However, if I received this as a paid job I could have a script in 20
days. Quite a challenge - I'm tempted to write the script...

Flicker is exaggerating just a tad :D, but his example isn't too far off the mark. If you're not familiar with the "calls for material" in the InkTip newsletter, you'd be surprised how specific some of the criteria are.

And they're looking for completed material for consideration, not offering payment up front or an option guarantee of any kind.

Yeah, the soccer script was not an actual request (the other two were) but as 2001 notes, it's definitely not too far from some of the requests I've seen advertised.

Nothing wrong with a company looking for a very (very!) specific script and story. If there's money to be made, I hope someone gets paid for their handiwork, whether it be in the form of a completed script or a scribe-for-hire situation.

Now... time to pen that low-budget lesbian volleyball rom-com!
