    Hit By Car

I've seen countless tutorials on how to achieve a 'hit by car' effect. And this one seems really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/x_yVC9vF5U0&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen"...

    The Cheapest Dolly Ever

I've read that tin foil stuck to the bottom of a tripod can get it moving and sliding with great ease. Have anyone tried it? If it works it'll be such a great dolly replacement!

    Hitting, Slapping, Punching Effects Help

Hi guys, in my new film, there will be scenes where a character slaps someone with the back of his hands. There's also another part with a person throwing someone onto the floor (more like hitting her face, causing her to drop). I haven't experienced with those effects before. But I'm guessing...

    Writing Powerful Dialogues

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one that finds this topic interesting. But I would like to ask all you screenwriters for your secret recipe... how do you generate powerful, strong lines that are likely to swim around the viewer's mind constantly even when they finish watching your film? Jeremy

    Feedback on Script about School

Hi guys, I've started a few pages of a new script. The maximum time for the film competition I'm entering is 20 minutes... and I don't think I can keep it under that. But here is the story: A few months ago, a student, Eileen, disappeared after viewing a confidential document of a teacher. It...

watch First Short Film: Imaginary Lives

Hi guys, some of you might've read the thread I created a while ago about my short film. Here it is, done. I would definitely love to see some feedback on anything (ex. directing, writing, acting, editing). One of my biggest concerns is that the viewers won't get my film in the end. Also...

    Better Approach

Hi guys, I really want to start writing a short film about disabled teenagers finding happiness. I would like it to be multi-plot, focusing on around four characters. My aim is around 20 minutes. Do you think 20 minutes is too long for a multi-plot? I want to give the characters more life so...

    FCE Help

Hi guys, for some reason my Final Cut Express is screwed up. I don't know what I did to cause these settings, and I would like to restore it to its default. First of all, is there a function where I can restore all the preferences/settings to its original state? If not, I'd like to know how...

    Fake Smoking

Hey guys, I'm filming a short involving teens and one of the characters is a smoker. Since they're student actors, I would like to add the smoke to the video instead of having them smoke. I was wondering if there was a way I can accomplish this. I think the best way to do this would be with a...

    First Short Film

Hi guys, just recently started posting on this forum again. I'm 14 and living in Hong Kong. Still in school so pretty much can't do much with film. :( Anyways, I've been trying to write, direct and produce a short film for almost 2 years now. Last year I wanted to join a film competition in my...

    Aperture with Camcorder

Hi guys, I use the Canon HG10. It's a hard disk drive based HD camcorder. The portrait mode (automatic) and aperture mode (manual) sometimes give pretty decent footage, with a nice blurred background. However, most of the time, backgrounds aren't blurred, and with a low aperture... (or high...

    Where could this idea go?

Hey guys, I've been trying to find some decent material to adapt. Something that could work out with a low budget, and with young actors... probably an extended short film, like a 'medium-film', if that exists :P. But, I thought that maybe being original would be a good idea. So, randomly this...

    Adaptation Ideas

Hi guys, just finished the book A Long Way Down by Nick Hornby. I wanted to adapt this into a 'semi-feature' film. Not too long... and change all the characters into teens, instead of adults. However, I checked online and the author has already hired someone to write a screenplay for the book...

    Looking Like a Real Film

Hey guys, I have Final Cut Express with a Canon HG 10 camcorder shooting at 24p. I want to try give my film a 'film' look so it looks more realistic. What adjustments should I make? I made them widescreen so the viewer can focus more at the subject. If you're familiar with this camcorder, is...

    Sound/Music Transitions

Hey guys, first of all sorry if I posted this in the wrong forum. Anyways, I am working with Final Cut Express 4 HD now, and when I edit my videos, they look 'fake' and 'dull'. I started watching shows on TV and noticed that the main reason was because I didn't have enough background music, and...

    Changing to Mac... advise needed.

Hi everbody, I am a Windows user, and have switched to Vista for about 1 year now. I've tried editing videos on XP and Vista and they're both surprisingly slow and after a 'video clip dragging into timeline', it lags for about 1 minute before resuming. Another big problem I find with editing on...
