    Can someone please explain this?

Strictly anecdotal because I can't prove it, but my mom used to tell me how as kids in the 1930s, she and her brothers would yell into the horn of a gramophone at the end of playing a record and said the rudimentary sounds could be played back. Maybe one day I'll try that one out!

Time to buy a camera!! ?

I personally think that the goal to shoot for in audio is clarity of sound, not a high price tag. I've been using an Audio Technica ATR-55 for almost 10 years and the sound is clear as a bell. I think I paid about $60 for it before it was discontinued. I based my recommendation on the reviews of...

Time to buy a camera!! ?

If you've got a T4i that hasn't gone all chalky then you're very fortunate. Apparently there was a run of about 70,000 that had the bad grips. http://www.engadget.com/2012/08/14/canon-rebel-t4i-recall-rubber-grip-allergic-reaction-rash/ The main advantage that I've seen from the cameras made...

Time to buy a camera!! ?

Beware the T4i, they have a nasty tendency to have the grips go white and chalky. A T3i is essentially the same thing, APS-C sensor (which is the same as the one in the 7D) and since Canon is now up to the T6i, you can score some pretty good deals on the 3. I'm still partial to the T2i, but the...

    brand usage. generic?

You could always turn the brand name product to the back, that's been done forever in productions. Or you could print out a "looks close to the original" label but instead of Nyquil it can say "Cough be Gone" or something. Equate and Great Value while touted as "generic" are still trademarks...

THE GENERAL REGISTRY OF CLICHE LINES

For "Seaview" fans; "Kowalski, shoot a charge through the hull!" or "Damage control! Report!" And for the real oldsters, Captain Video would routinely threaten to "throw out the interlocks" when the "Galaxy" was about to crash. Fortunately it never needed to be done, so I don't know what an...

THE GENERAL REGISTRY OF CLICHE LINES

Back in the old days, if a soldier showed a picture of his wife, kids, mom, etc; he was doomed to be killed in the very next scene. That turned up in a lot of war flicks. Almost as dangerous as wearing a red shirt on Star Trek!

THE GENERAL REGISTRY OF CLICHE LINES

"Let's get out of here" is the number one most used line in motion pictures. I remember hearing that back in the 70s and it's definitely true. I'm determined to never put it in a screenplay

    What is the pre-production process?

If you want something to watch and follow along on the process, I'd recommend Charles Band's "Cinemaker" set of DVDs. I generally refer to it as "How not to be sued" but it goes into great detail about the pre-production process and has a lot of printable budget forms and other items that can be...

    Financing a camera

"There is ALWAYS something new coming out. You can't win that game." Best statement in the thread. Even the mighty RED cameras are starting to get some grey hairs after just a few years. Rent for big gigs, shop for something inexpensive that ticks most of your boxes to use as backup. Soon your...

    Panasonic GH4 experience

Mine gives beautiful images but it feels flimsy compared to my old Canon T2i cams. Also has a very flimsy HDMI port that will fail under a lot of use, I'm having to send mine in for service soon. But again, the GH4 is very versatile, I've been using nothing but old Canon FD mount lenses (some...

Robert Towne. It's hard to make an original screenplay come across as an adaptation from a novel, but Chinatown proves it can be done.

    What do I get next?

I'm in the same boat as LDS, lots of gear and no one to run it all. That's not really a bad place to be though. I'm guessing you're in high school so you've got a pretty good network of people to work with. I wish filmmaking had been this accessible when I was a high schooler, I used to think...

Question about using a lens with no image stabilization.

icba has it right, practice with any kind of steadicam should do the trick. But if it's still a problem, stuff the kit lens back on that T2i for the duration of that shot and then go back to the 50mm prime on a tripod after that.

    from a 6D to a GH4

I love the GH4 for the image quality, not so impressed with the cheapo HDMI port. I bought mine in July and just discovered that the HDMI is not working, won't feed a monitor or the YAGH attachment. Why they didn't go with the more (barely more) robust mini connector rather than the micro just...

    workaround for slow computer (editing)

I've been using an HP i3 since 2010 to edit and do effects with my T2is and a Panasonic SD100 camcorder. Worked great for Vegas editing but bogged down with HitFilm2 Ultimate to the point I could hardly use it. I even had to pop for a new Nvidia card to do graphics work. Last week Office Max...
