    SAG signatory

I'm working on a short and some actors want me to be a SAG Signatory. I went to the website and felt like I was falling into a black hole. I've worked with a lot of SAG people and they always shrugged off the fact I'm not a signatory. Maybe because I was waving money around. This one is unpaid...

Selling gear online, what is current etiquette?

I've sold cameras on ebay and CL but it's been a long time since I've sold one off a regular website. What it the current most accepted etiquette? Seller sends money first? Then buyer sends product? I always did it that way but it's been a while. I'm hoping to avoid paypal fees and again, this...

Windows 8, my burden, my enemy (Dell)

To say I hate my quad core Dell XPS hotrod is an understatement. I can't even scroll through jpegs without crashes or some crazy COM Surrogate errors. It's no faster than my Dell w7, 3 years its senior. It doesn't come with any software disk. I'm either going to shoot the computer, myself, or...

    camera height

Can someone tell me what they think is the camera height? I have trouble with this for some reason. I'd say it looks like camera is at the level of the male piano player's eyes. http://www.shutterfly.com/lightbox/view.sfly?fid=80953db9372b88416276141d224b0f78

    GH2 doomsday hoax

It was recently reported that mad Russian hacker Vitaliy Kiselev had been "Purchased" by Panasonic as a developer. The glorious days of turbocharging the beloved GH2 via Vitaliy's amazing hacks were apparently over. He'd left the Jedi Knights to join the Dark Side. Except the whole thing was an...

    VFX on Hunger Games

I'm a HG fanboy. Dug it. But that flaming suit, that wasn't that great right? I feel like it was something you'd see posted here with a thread title like "Hey guys! Check my first attempt at fake fire in AE!!!"

    F bubble wrap mailers.

So I always buy those padded or bubble wrapped DVD mailers. At Staples they're now over $10 for a sixpack. Why do I need padding if I'm sending a DVD in soft plastic case? Plain paper envelopes are way cheaper. What was I thinking all this time?

    Kony

What are you thoughts and opinions. 40 million views in 3 days. I think it's propaganda at worst, 4th rate journalism at best. It's so Geraldo.

    My night at the movies

So a friend was visiting Saturday. I took my friend and my two small kids to see GHOSTRIDER (don't see this movie, you will feel really sad watching 50 yearold Nick Cage playing the edgy cool guy with a flaming skull). 4 movie tickets, 3 popcorns, and afterwards 4 medium yogurts at Pinkberry...

    Sex Offenders everywhere!

A friend of a friend came out of a bar in downtown Santa Barbara, drunk, then urinated in an alley near the bar. Cops arrested him, charged him with Indecent Exposure. Courts now have registered him as a sex offender. Apparently this is common now. Does this sound right? Is this the goofy world now?

The next big thing and working backwards

HAYWIRE set for release. Steve Soderbergh and my favorite screenwriter, Lem Dobbs, built a script and movie on the stunning MMA fighter Gina Carano. I love it, find a location, a character, something, and work backwards. It's great advice for an Indie. And let's see if Gina Carano can deliver...

what's the wince point in short film length

What's the point in length in which film fest programmers begin to hold a short to a higher standard? I realize it varies from screener to screener and fest to fest, but just wondering what the community thinks is reasonable rule of thumb. 15 minutes?

    Help! My short isn't short!

So I finally got a rough cut of my short. Kids and other commitments don't allow for the time it demands. Script was 18 pages so I thought I'd get about 16 minutes of film. I generally like what I have but one problem, it's 33 minutes! And there are still scenes to add. I understand that long...

cheap to mid range camera shootout

    Universal Studios, Hollywood

It's not in Hollywood btw, but anyhow, took the kids there yesterday. The Terminator and Shrek shows were great. I've got a question though, I've never seen 3D so sharp and colorful. For those that have seem these shows, is that the level of quality one should expect from 3D at the local...
