Can an HDD of 5400rpm handle avchd video editing?

5400rpm is good enough for editing with heavily compressed footage. Just make sure you don´t fill up the drive too much (more than 2/3rds hit the performance noticeable) and maybe convert to a more cpu friendly codec like dnxhd or cineform.

How Do I Get This Look?

Even if you buy the exact same equipment used in these clips your footage won´t look even near this for weeks, months or maybe years to come. Shallow DOF, fast paced movement, manual focus and novice operator is a foolproof recipe for useless footage. Get a decent camcorder (hv40 or equivalent...

Anyone use Dropbox? Seems awesome (and free)

Some customers use this to share their files and to be honest: I always wonder what I´ve done to them that they make me download their stuff with 50 to 100 kb/s. Guess they have free accounts or at least I hope they don´t pay money for transfer rates this low.

T2i using FD lenses ?? Adorama adapter

Congratulations, but you do realize that with Minolta MC mount lenses you´ll run into the same problem you´ll run in with Canon FD and Pentacon P6 for that matter? It´s either no focus to infinity, correction glass or surgery: http://www.cogitech.ca/Rokkor/index.html Not being adaptable to...

Quick and Easy fix for Jello

There is a commercial AE/Nuke plugin from TheFoundry called "Rolling Shutter" which seems to work pretty well. Never used it myself though but heard rave reviews from folks who did. If you are on a budget there is a free plugin called "deshaker" for Virtual Dub (also free) which besides...

    Canon 550D or 7D

Thats perfectly fine if your one and only intention is to entertain people but if you furthermore want them to pay you their hard earned bucks for this entertainment, it should be your duty to do the best you can do in every single aspect of production even though they may never notice it...

    EX1R or XF300

I don´t know the Canon but meanwhile I´m pretty familiar with the EX1 and can assure you that it is a great peace of gear which should fit most peoples needs for documentary and imagefilm stuff. Furthermore the guy who did this Vimeo test is in my opinion deadwrong about the sharpness. If you...

    Canon 550D or 7D

If by "in the right hands" you mean people who are willing and capable to somehow work around the limitations/flaws of dslrs (aliasing, moire, jello issues just to name a few) you are correct. But from a workflow standpoint h.264 footage is a nightmare in post compared to redcode or even xdcam...

    Canon 550D or 7D

As I wrote: The guy had the camera still in his hands so it wasn´t as much freefall for the Red as it was for him.

    Canon 550D or 7D

So was I ;) Well I´ve seen camera assistants falling 3 meters down with the camera in their hands from a traverse (the Red was fine, he is too by now). These things can happen and especially low or no budget projects tend to have lots of first timers and less experienced people on the set who...

    Canon 550D or 7D

Almost. I´d like to add that if you intend to use the camera in an uncontrollable, potentially dangerous, crowded and/or rainy environment (e.g. a film set) you might feel much safer with the tank-like 7d than the plastic fantastic body of the rebel/550. For the OP´s needs it sounds like the...

    Canon 5d Lenses?

Yes there is. Simply put: The problem with FD lenses is that they need to be closer to the sensor than EOS lenses. Therefore you either use a mechanical adapter and loose the ability to focus farther then a bunch of meters away from you or you use an adapter with correction glass which will...

    Slow motion Question

With 1080i60 for slowmo you basically capture 1.036.800 pixels (1920x540) of the full res image (2.073.600) while with 720p60 its only 921.600 (1280x720). So yes, theoretically 1080i should look a little better but the end result will so much depend on the algorithm used to deinterlace/stretch...
