Rights to Movie Names (Part II)

Actually I love the name AM/FM since it's a late-night (early morning) DJ on an FM station. I was amazed no one had used that name before. If we ever considered making a 'Talk Radio II" we would have our attorney look into it, I was just curious since there are 100s of PART TWOs on the shelves...

Rights to Movie Names (Part II)

"Single White Female II" and a myriad of other part two movies that litter the shelves of the local video stores that have nothing at all to do with the original? What rights are needed to use these titles? It seems there are numerous titles out there capitalizing on the (sometimes limited)...

Thoughts on festivals - Any tips?

Clive, I want to jump across the pond and give you a hug (not a "Brokeback" hug ... just a guy-to-guy kind of thing). I am in the same head as you exactly. Our investors are NOT beating down the door or even bothering me for the return but I, of course, feel obligated. When "Alphie" gets turned...

Thoughts on festivals - Any tips?

Would think about Wreck-Beach but our 82-minute feature is not hacked into a short yet! Thanks for the tip (as I am now in pre-production of a SHORT film).

Thoughts on festivals - Any tips?

We would keep applying but we've A) Run out of money and; b) Run out of confidence. On one hand we're told to submit to every single festival we can afford to submit to (which is what we did, starting with the TOP 10) and on the other hand we're being told to be exclusive and make sure the...

Thoughts on festivals - Any tips?

I am in the home stretch with our first-feature's first festival circuit and am getting very frustrated (I know ... every filmmaker goes through these emotions). Honestly, I didn't expect to get into Sundance but I was hopeful for Slamdance. Didn't get into those two. Or, Miami, SXSW...

    Brokeback to the Future

These things crack me up. When I saw the one for the Shining that made it look like a father/son movie, not only did I laugh my $#% off but I thought it looked like a better movie that way!

ITN Distribution - You've heard the shtick

OK. ITN is interested in our movie. Their deal is $2,500 gets you a full page ad in IFQ magazine for Cannes, and their sales team make sales calls for us outside the markets as well. I know of one film maker who was happy they went with ITN (although they still haven't made money two years...

archived-videos Quicktime version - Waiting on Alphie

I just found out we DO have a QuickTime version of our trailer. I never knew this (some things are kept from the Producer I guess). Enjoy! http://www.harkproductions.com/media/alphie/alphie-trailer.mov

    York Entertainment

York Entertainment experience I can say that York very professionally requested a screener of my movie and very professionally contacted me AFTER reviewing the screener to say they were not interested. Can't say the EXPERIENCE with York was unpleasant but not having interest in our movie was...

    PAL conversion from frame mode

As I mentioned, there is some stutter to the picture. When the camera moves or the subjects move they move with a more "jerky" motion than a smooth motion. This would be quite apparent on the final as much of the movie takes place in a moving car. Thanks for any input! Eric

    PAL conversion from frame mode

Clive (and all the other Europeans) might know the answer to this one. We have a solid inquiry on International (non-US) broadcast distribution of a documentary we shot two years ago. The company (out of Australia) thinks it will be a "hit" overseas and we're excited at the prospect of getting...

    choosing a lead actor

I can hook you up to someone who can hook you up to Bruno Kirby. He's very New York for Dallas but he's fairly well-known and in the right age bracket. Bruno Kirby

    choosing a lead actor

Is this a union shoot? Our Director lived in Dallas for a number of years so he might know some "local talent."

    Drink drink everyone drink ...

I think boiling the alcohol out is the best idea. I'll experiment on my own (during Happy Hour) to see if it affects the color at all. Probably will taste awful but shots of booze on their own tastes awful anyway! Thanks for the ideas!

    Drink drink everyone drink ...

Need to fake Jack Daniels. Any suggestions? I think matching color *might be easy but whiskey aslo has a certain viscosity that could come through in some close-ups (and I do NOT want to get the actor drunk ... as much fun as that sounds). Any tips on this? Today was also a good day. Committed...

    Music & Indie Films

Our Director is also a songwriter and put together this site of royaltyfreedownloads (at unreal prices). Visit www.royaltyfreedownloads.com and start shopping. These are mostly :30 and :60 pieces but they are great for pulling together short scenes (and especially great for commercial work)...

    Cinema Stories

Clive, Everything is true in this story so you get the added advantage of saying "BASED ON A TRUE STORY." I used to manage movie theaters in Upstate New York and, with manageing them, I was also the projectionist. Old 35mm reels that had one change-over (watch for the little circle in the...

    lighting Shooting Christmas Lights

That was unreal. I loved it! Would also love to know what his electric bill averages out to monthly. Perfect video for this festive time of the year.

    Indie Book Exchange (Part II)

I traded my Festival Guidebook for a DVD of "A Joker's Card" and enjoyed the experience (not so much the movie) so much that I'd like to do it again! Up for grabs (in exchange for a DVD of your indie), are: "Down and Dirty Pictures" "Producing for Hollywood" "Independent Feature Film...
