The China Film Administration has confirmed that it will cut back on the import of U.S. films to the Middle Kingdom.

This is not a tarrif discussion.

Less films selling in China means less money for Hollywood - lower film budgets - do you think that's necessarily a bad thing?
So many films are watered down, made bland, so they appeal to overseas markets instead of creating the best possible experience for american patrons.

Personally as a consumer, I could see something like this actually IMPROVING my experience in the audience.
Maybe it would also bring back the rise of more mid-budget independent friendly films, instead of all this exclusive tentpole nonsense going on for the past few decades.

What do you all think?

Agreed, catering to too wide of an audience ends up resulting in homogenized products like we've been seeing. Most of my favorite movies throughout life Were somewhere in the 10 to $40 million range, Averaging I would say 20. Dr Strange was a fun movie as was Iron Man, But the last 30 or so of these weren't so great. Even when they were, I think I would rather see twenty talented creatives get a $20 million shot rather than one untalented studio executive get a single $400 million shot. Perhaps this is a step in that direction.
