Your' Best work vs Your Most Popular (viewed, liked or whatever, followed) work

Art is subjective. The mainstream is full of crap and genius works. The artist may or may not feel their most popular is their best work. They may make a personal that fails, and fluff that sells millions. Or they may figure out the formula of creating their best work that is their most popular, like many have. But then again some fans may not agree. It's all...... subjective. But you started this about your own work and all I asked was to see it. If I said my band's most popular song was the one I hated most, you may ask to hear it. That is like normal shit man.

I suppose I figured, I posted an experience someone could relate to, I didn't post my work as an example because that is not the discussion (or wasn't the point).

I can see you're point for stats or whatever, sorry for even brining up the idea:)

1. this is a really good idea for a thread. Good job Dean Jay.

2. the execution really fell flat. It feels like a community of creatives could do a bit more with this fun softball question.

3. this is an opportunity for us to A: display our work B: analyze and discuss what worked and what didn't C: discuss why expectations and realities differed, and learn from our collective experience.

4. if you think about it, this question is everything that this forum is about

I'll take the time to answer this, and what's more, I'd be really interested to read all of your responses. Did you know I haven't seen any output from most forum members? I'd like to, I check the videos section every day, because I want to see what you guys created. Watercooler discussions about the latest tv show are fun, but I can get that anywhere, so my 2c is that I'd really like to see a clip of your best work vs your most popular work. I was pretty disappointed when I read this entire thread and nobody had posted a single SBS comparison for me to check out. Writing, videos, fx tests, animation cells, concept art, poetry, whatever, any actual output would be welcome.

I guess some of my most popular work was back 10 years ago, and my best work yesterday night. I'm not going to count larger released films I worked on, because 70 people worked on those, so I can't say with any certainty that it was my work that made them popular. My top draws were in the VUZE days, and since that company went down in flames and shut down their servers, I lost the content and views that were there. Same with Machinima.com when I was a staff director there. The Mass Effect series I did for them was pretty popular.

In my case, for the most part my best work and my most popular work were the same -

the planetary surface engine demo for SP

A local park I shot for a documentary, sorry about the narrator, he kind of phoned it in

the Save Point demo for underwater biomes

the intro sequence to a local documentary film I made

a test video of my old house in California

There was one recent video where it got way more likes by volume than the other recent ones and I have no idea why this video stands out to people.

it's this one of the train station, just some dalies for the current demo, but it got 5 likes compared to the normal 1 I get these days.

I actually think this one is nothing special, but it has the most likes.

My fault @Dean Jay, if you want to discuss that and not your work it's fine. It was just worded weird so I thought maybe you ran into a situation you were referring to where we could see the work.
