Today

Wow a celebration of obedience. I think I'll take the kids to six flags and grill chicken on the patio. This is a remarkable time, when we can all realize how lucky we all are to live in a world where we can be commanded by mystical forces to kill children. Turn on the tv, the parade is on, look it's a giant inflatable sacrificial knife. And there's a float with a guy stabbing a sheep to death. Thanks to the right for constantly pushing religious ideology as a replacement for science, and thanks to the left for labeling anyone as a bigot if they question the validity of religious beliefs. Is there anyone out there like me, that thinks we should be moving past cave paintings now that we've landed on the moon?

Yup, Nate. I erased the post because I had second thoughts about making light of something that might be a big deal to some people, toward no real end. But I love the Bob Dylan lyric, from Highway 61 revisited:

God said to Abraham, kill me a son.
Abe said, Man you must be putting me on.

A smart person once said "question everything, and accept nothing" now we are told to "accept everything and question nothing, or you're one of the bad guys"

This post is literally about a celebration of obedience, conformity, and not questioning your overlords. What a bad message, it doesn't deserve protection or respect. And I don't think it makes sense to shield anyone or anything from those kinds of distinctions. I definitely don't follow along with the modern sensibility of "everyone except ideologists need to shut up". The irony here being that the very groups that pressure people to respect every belief are people that have long been victims of those same beliefs. That gay guy that was persecuted by focus on the family for 25 years is now booing or even attacking me for daring to say that maybe Christians don't get everything right. They know they don't get everything right, they marched in a parade insisting that they weren't right, and yet now a decade later they're on a high horse defending them from the slightest negative comment. Some ideas are good and some are bad, so I don't think we should offer blanket immunity from criticism to anyone who's myth became popular.

If they have the right to broadcast their ideas internationally, so do I, that's what equality looks like. Lots of people offend me in many ways, and I doubt they worry at all about it.

Oh, God said to Abraham, "Kill me a son"
Abe say, "Man, you must be puttin' me on"
God say, "No", Abe say, "What?"
God say, "You can do what you want Abe, but,
The next time you see me comin', you better run"

Well, Abe said, "Where you want this killin' done?"
God said, "Out on Highway 61"
