Premiere Pro CS5 newbie problem

Hi guys, sorry if this has been posted before but I'm having problems importing an .mp4 clip with premiere pro. The clip itself is around a minute long but in premiere its condenced it down to just 3 seconds of stop-start disjointedness. Any ideas how I can get the full clip on there? I've played around with the timeline, sequences etc. Could it be the settings I'm starting the project with ala "DV - PAL, widescreen 48kHz.

What processor and how much RAM do you have?
