directing Working with DP

Questions for everyone: How can I ensure that I have a good working relationship with my DP onset? Does anybody have any horror stories that they could share?

Typical job stuff.. ask for references, call the references.
Ask questions in the interview... bring them to a table read or something so they can meet the rest of the company and see if theyre a good fit.

if youre super super paranoid and gonna make a feature.. hire them to work on a 2 page short (or one scene from the feature script) with u first. test the waters

Consider having a second member of your team interview them with you. You may each see things the other one doesn't.

Also, make sure that you know whether their equipment is included in their fee or there's a separate charge for that.
