wide-ER Screen and festivals?

Hi all,
Iv become a bit enamored with the look of wider screen video. Are any of you gods here doing such?

I posted my first attempt to do so here(http://www.indietalk.com/showthread.php?p=114980#post114980)
I like the look of it.

I shot this in 1920X1080 (16:9) and of course cant recall EXACTLY what I cropped to.. I believe it was 1920 wide by I THINK 873 tall (1920x873). Im at work and don't have access to the original video.

Which should be the 70mm standard according to this calc.

http://www.digitalrebellion.com/aspect_calc.htm

anyway.. Im curious to know if I should bother for videos that might be submitted for festivals etc.?

Also, what are the most common ratios used in independent film?

Thanks

I was just looking into this the other day. It seems that there is definitely not one standard, although there are some more esoteric standards for different things. I found the wiki page was really helpful and listed some common ones.

I would maybe try and keep a 'raw' copy of your film and find out individually if the fest you want to submit to has an aspect ratio requirements. If not, well, it's just up to you, isn't it?

I know, its completely UNCLEAR what the heck is going on .. also the math doesn't line up EXACTLY which is kind of annoying.

On the calc page I posted, there is something about "the nearest 16th" which might explain it.. but you got me what that means..

which is why I posted in the first place :)

But...but...but....I just want my movie to look like the movie screen movies!

Wow, and here I thought I just figured out 35 mm finally, now we're talking CALC??!

Give me a bone, man! ;)
