Why you don't use a camera mounted mic

Too funny. Although it seems silly because no director in their right mind would USE the audio from the wide shot...they would use the audio from the CUs for the wide, or they would ADR the wide if they didn't get usable audio to the action.

Why didn't they just use the audio from the CU? Is this a joke? And why the heck would you want your mic poles in the shot? That's an unusable shot anyway.

Am I missing something?
 
The whole point is to show the difference in sound quality between using the camera mounted mic and close micing, it's not meant to be a real shoot. It's actually not the best example - it should have been a boom-op. You can hear the volume fluctuations as the talent move their heads, and you can hear the difference between tonal differences between the mics.
 
Have you guys seen the commercial for some light bulbs that ionize the air?

It looks every bit the dimestore production you would expect from such a commercial, but the audio is a bit pronounced in its ambient hard surfaced room slap back, like there was no mic on the actress, or the mic on her didn’t have enough level. It’s kind of funny.
