Which school would be better?

Did you see THIS?

AFI has one of the only schools I feel is worth it.
Just a personal opinion, of course. When I was
just starting I volunteered on a lot of AFI student
films and I learned so much - without paying a
dime or spending one second in a classroom. I still
volunteer on AFI projects.

Anyway, if you want to be in Los Angeles you will
find that UCLA and USC are nearly identical. UCLA
is less expensive and both are very, very difficult to
get into. Check out Cal State LA, CSUN, LMU, Brooks
Columbia (in Los Angles).

FWIW:

You were asking about writing in another thread. Have you considered picking a school for it's writing program and studying film as elective or as a minor?

All the LA/NY schools listed are silly expensive, and AFI doesn't have an undergrad program. Most of the USC folks I work with were graduate students there IIRC.

You also may find that after 4 years in a writing program and some film study on the side, that grad school is unnecessary.

I'll agree with Rik on this one - if I had the means and could get in, the only one I'd choose at this point is AFI. Having said that, doing just fine with my little 'ol BA from a "State" school. ;)
