movies What's the last film you watched? And rate it!

Just saw Snow White as well.

It was solid, absolutely beautiful, and had some funny bits. The dwarves stole the show. Hemsworth and Theron were great.

There were some parts that were sluggish and some parts felt like something was missing.

Did anyone else think that Stewart kind of looked like the Kergen when she was in armor with her hair braided?
 
Ghost rider spirit of vengeance - 4/10
Could have been good, started well but then it all became mediocre...boring.... the CG fire and smoke from the skeleton head wasn't convincing specially in daylight. Nicolas Cage acting was really poor... the story wasn't interesting and the last 15 minutes of the film look cheap and rushed.
 
:) I liked Hot Fuzz quite a bit too.

Cracker -- Yeah, it really is. They did a nice job. And it put me in the mood to rewatch...

The Last Samurai (2003). I think that's the second or third time I've seen it. It really is quite good too. Moving, plenty of rousing action and drama. Maybe a solid 7 or 8...or hell, maybe even a 9. And that film gave me a hankering to rewatch Highlander soon for some reason. Oh Lord, I've seen that so many times. But it's been a long while now. Might be next on my queue. Heheh, speaking of the Kurgan.

I'm glad to hear Snow White isn't as bad as the Tomatometer suggests. Makes me feel better about probably going to see it.

Anyone else thinking about buying tickets for the "midnight" pre-opening show of Prometheus? =)

Yay 'Hot Fuzz'!

Nah, I'm dyin' to go see 'Prometheus' but will likely wait two or three weeks for the weekend audiences to thin out so that I might be able to watch it without my fellow texting-chomping-gabbing bumpkin theatermates ruining it for me.

I just watched 'The Avengers' the other week in 3D and was NOT impressed with the effect.
Now I'm hesitant to spend extra for the same meh-effect for 'P'. :huh:

Uhh, yeah I'm thinking about it. If, by "thinking about" it, you mean that I knew I'd be watching the midnight premiere as soon as the movie was announced, and still in preproduction! :D

I'm starting to get antsy.
 
Ray --- I know, it does sometimes make me wonder why I go as well. I think I've had pretty good luck at the handful of pre-openings that I've gone to. Maybe cause those crowds tend to be the real fans, the real movie geeks who care more. But another thing that's fun about those pre-opening nights is that their crowds have the best energy...you're all there in hopes of being wowed by a really awesome movie.

Bad Biology- I'd rate it 3/5 stars. It had one of the weirdest storylines ever, and the content was a little squeamish but it made me laugh at some points.

Dunno. My girlfriend is a movie critic, so we went to the screening, but we're under embargo not to talk about it. Don't want to put her job in jeopardy, so I don't try to apply logic to studio requests... ;)

Magnolia- 10/10

The definition of a complete masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant and ridiculously ambitious cinematography, gritty and real performances from absolutely everybody, and possibly the most emotion I've ever seen packed into one film. Less of a movie than it is an experience or artistic awakening.

Anderson's flawless and unmatched direction took everything I believed about filmmaking and its constraints and turned it upside down. A colossal inspiration and one of the best movies I've ever seen. Definitely the best of the last two decades.

Punch-Drunk Love- 8/10

I don't know, man. First viewing and I don't know what to think. It was extremely powerful, once again was extremely well-crafted and had a brilliant Jon Brion score. Sandler was unexpectedly moving. But at the same time the film felt half-baked at moments and scenes ended too early/abruptly. Plus I was confused as hell by the strange mood of the film, although I know it was meant to be different. Overall probably Anderson's weakest film, but that's still saying a lot.

Fair enough :)

I have yet to see it but the reviewer for my website (and almost all of my reviewer friends) were a bit disappointed by it. I predict that you enjoyed the visuals and direction but found the script unconvincingly and the logic hard to follow... :weird:
