What would be faster?

Hey there guys,

What would be the faster machine..

The current Imac Intel Core I7 with 16GB of Ram

or

The 2009 Mac Pro 2.26GHz 8 Core.. 16GB of Ram

What would be the faster machine?

Both the same price!

Just wondering

Good question. I would think the current one with the I7 Sandybrook is more tuned to FCPX and apps to follow, plus the Thunderbolt technology if it's similar to the MacBook Pro. IMO, too many recent changes at Apple to go with a 2009 machine. If you're going to run older Apple stuff...heck, I'd still buy the newer one.

According to Geek Bench, the i7 iMac has a score of 9122, and that Mac Pro has a score of 11803 (GB measures processor and memory performance only). The Pro is far more expandable and upgradable, but on the other hand it's older technology and doesn't come with a 27" screen. I'd hold off on an iMac purchase if I were you - they're due to be updated very soon, probably to include the Thunderbolt technology CamVader mentioned that was recently added to the MacBook Pros.

True.
Would it actually be possible to change both processors of the Mac Pro over to Intel I7 990X ones? If yes, that would give you one hell of a boost? Combine that with about 24gb of Ram! :D

Does someone have the money for that? And does it actually work?
