What to Buy??

Hey guys,

I am looking into getting my feet wet with the production/ filming field.
with that being said i want to get my first video camera. My budget is about $1000, any of you more experienced than myself able to give me some advice as to what direction to go in with a video camera? i was looking into a Sony Handycam

If you are interested in a DSLR there are many that record video.

If you are interested in a Sony camera check out the Sony HDR-CX550V
and Sony CX100.

Sound is half of the experience.

You could make a good case for sound being 2/3rds of the experience, when you factor in the combined strength of dialogue, music and sound effects.
When I first read that quote, I thought it was correct, but exaggerating a little. Now I think "Sound is half the experience" underplays audio's importance.

OP, you might be able to get a 2nd hand DVX for that money. They are a little old, and can't shoot HD, but have great sound. You might be able to get a 5D if you're lucky, but you'll have no audio or lenses.
