What sense does this make

Hi on IMDB i have seen in the business section mentioneing Opening business then gross business and then weekend gross.i am confused because i have read gross mean the over all revues then why is this weekend gross mentioned. please guide me

Regards

Yep.

Opening means the day the movie opened - one day.
Weekend means the opening weekend - three days.

Studios and distributors break down the returns (grosses) into
smaller and smaller and more specific chuncks so they can
claim some kind of record.

"The biggest weekend opening of a thriller featuring a dog in March that started on a Wednesday with a 2 in the date!!"

ok. Thanks. I was confused with the word gross as in business terms Gross is considered only once in a year so i was confused how there can be gross calculation twice an year.

Regards

In box-office the films gross is calculated several times a day
during the opening weekend. It is up dated every day for the
first 14 days of release and then once a week until it leaves theaters.

Hmmm well very interesting and different use of the term GROSS in film Business. But what the logic behind it that gross is calculated more then once in a day

If i am not wrong things work like this for example
From Los Angelas 1 million and from Neyyork 0.5 million ok add them and this is a gross..then comes the news later on that from another city FIlm did 0.2 million ok add this and it s anew gross.....then the revenue of 4th city and things go like that.

AM i correct

Regards

I was confused with the word gross as in business terms Gross is considered only once in a year so i was confused how there can be gross calculation twice an year.

If the gross of a business can be considered once a year then at the end of
ten years the gross of all ten can be considered, right?

So if the gross of a business can be considered once a year then the monthly
gross can be considered, right?

If a monthly gross can be considered then why not a weekly gross?

You see where I'm going with this?

What a film makes in one theater on one showing is the gross for that time period.
What a film makes on one day in all theaters is the gross for that time period.
What a film makes on one weekend in all theaters is the gross for that time period.

When the film finishes its theatrical run the gross is considered. But it's not done.
A film like "Gone With The Wind" (1939) or "Star Wars" (1977) is still making money
today - adding to its gross.
