archived-videos Two short films; "Beat" and "Party In Cuckoo Land"

Hi there

My name is Sophie Boyce, I direct films with Esbi Film Studios, a production team made up of 16-18 year olds. In the past month we've bought ourselves a Canon XL1. We're constantly making short films, just to get some feedback really.

If you get a minute, please check out our videos

Beat http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=89Qui8wjAhY&feature=channel

and Party In Cuckoo Land http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=slVTZUVrUMQ

Constructive feedback will be very much appreciated. =)
Many thanks

Sophie Boyce

I liked both films. Very good.

For Beat, the only thing that bothered me was the goddamn sun coming through the kitchen. The camera work was great, and the acting was good too. Everything was played in the right direction. It is obvious that you didn't have that much to work with, but it still came through as a good piece.

Party In Cuckoo Land was also very good. You know how to make shorts make a lasting impression. And if that was you in both, I must say you are as pretty as you are multi-talented. Going to watch more soon.

Good luck on future projects!

Hi Esbi :)

Gotta be honest... I hated Beat.

Angsty teen drama wrapped up into a few minutes is pretty darn difficult to do. This film didn't have it at all. I was waiting for the "bonding moment" where they examined each others forearms to compare scars. /emo

Cookoo Land, however, was friggin' amazing.

It lingered a bit too long at the end, but aside from that pacing issue... it's beautiful. I totally understand your interest in Barrie, etc. I'd like to hear more about that biography project, that you mentioned in another thread.

_______

Serious sound issues on both flicks - though Cookoo had less issues than Beat. Audio drops all over the place. If you're working as a group, that should be easy enough to fix up in the future.

Thank you very much for the comments.

Unfortunately, that's not me in the video, it's Rebecca Jeffries- a very talented individual I agree.

It's true, we don't have a lot to work with at the moment, and I don't have a team of people; I'm sixteen-years-old, been making films for about 7 years now and just trying to improve, mature and expand. Hopefully for the future I can get a real team together, maybe even a budget and that will solve obvious issues such as sound, lighting etc., for now though, it's just me, my camera and a couple of other enthusiastic people who want to help out. And luckily I have contacts with a lot of local drama groups which gives me access to my actors!

In January we're going to begin filming a 10-minute film called "The Curious Tales Of Electra Cheswick", which I'm really looking forward to - and your feedback (and any additional feedback) has very much helped with this project. Thank you.

In response to the Barrie comment, I am a huge fan of J.M.Barrie and was hoping to make a similar film about J.K.Rowling. Unfortunatley, now, I don't think thats going to be possible.

Any additional feedback is greatly appreciated. :)
