critique Thoughts on my Sci Fi Pilot? How can I make the audience care about characters in the first few pages?

Hi all, I am looking for feedback on the first 14 pages of my sci fi pilot.
Mainly, I am curious to know:
Have I got an interesting story thus far in your opinion?
Do I introduce the world or have I overdone it?
Have I successfully teased the theme thus far?

I read the first few pages and it seemed like the character was a self-centered, money hungry, child killing, abductor.
Did I get that right?

I'd say if you want to have the audience care about the characters in the first few pages then you should try giving the character some LIKABLE qualities, and put them in an unfortunate/relatable situation.

I read the first 4 pages, which is about all I read in this situation (people I don't know).

I agree with @sfoster .

On the plus side, the writing is pretty good. But yeah, 0 interest in the protagonist.
