The XL1 and lense adapters.

Im thinking about buying a Canon XL1, films on minidv.

I want to get that film look, so i've been told the 'REDROCK M2' adapter is good, it allows you to use 35mm lenses and such to get a more professional look to the outcome film.
But its pricey..

This video was filmed with an XL1 and a 35mm lense. + REDROCK M2

This is a hell of a lot cheaper than the Redrock m2, but will it do the same job?
Sorry for all the questions.

Also, what is the differance between a 85mm lense and a 35mm lense~?

Thank you in advance.

The Redrock is an adaptor that fits on a fixed lens - a lens that
cannot be removed.

The EF adaptor is excellent for cameras with removable lenses.

The difference between the 85mm and the 35mm is the focal
length. The smaller the number, the wider the lens.

the redrock is a 35mm lens adapter system that will give you DOF and a film look...it has a spinning film plane to give it a shutter look as well and will let you use standard 35mm lens...but you need to order it for spacific lenses..nikon,canon,zies..etc..nothing comes closer to a film look than this system IMO...and has kits to add for follow fucus, matt boxes and rods and camera mount...they even make a mirror now to flip the image..before that you had to have a monitor that could flip it so you werent looking at the image upside down...but i would still use an 8in monitor to check focus anyway...so the adapter is good for handheld viewing thru the eyepiece...you also lose about 1 fstop with this system due to all the elements in front of the camera...so you will need more light...but you are going to light anyway...so whats a little more light...

tje EF adapter is just that...an adapter ring that lets you mount your 35mm lens to the camera...thats all it does...there are no elements...just a ring...so no loss of fstop...but no film look !!!

hope this helps a little

That Redrock is a nice setup, but it's not cheap. The cost of the M2 system would be more than I paid for my XL1s (of course I picked it up used) AND the 16x manual lens I bought for it.

My dream Redrock setup:
