From what I understand, clickbait can give positive short term results but ultimately weakens viewer faith in your channel. I guess it depends on your strategy. People that feel ripped off once they opt in usually leave with a negative opinion.

A good thumbnail is worth it's weight in gold though, as long as you don't make promises you can't keep.
