The First time. My little diary of making my first short

The First time! My diary of the making of "We are One"

Okay guys. I am quite excited here! I am shooting my first propper short film, which is not staged in the next week. I have the whole next week for me, because I am off school for a week (english holidays)... I am shooting a non-narrative film, which is supposed to highlight the problems of our society.
I thought that it is quite a relief for me and always good to read later on to write down my experiences.
I started thinking about this a week ago or so, so this is not a hugely planned project, but still quite a big thing for me. Today I started to care about all the forms and lists. I filled out the first half of my shot list and found out, that for the first 25 seconds, I have 37 shots alone :) This is gonna be a hell of a lot of work. I got a friend to give me a hand, but he doesn't know much about filming, he will take photos of the shoot mainly.

I will be filming this in London as said, next week!

Tomorrow I will be completing the shot list. I will then proceed to start drawing the storyboard for the visualising process. Will post some scans of that probably, but not to many so I don't spoil the film.
After that, I will work on the shooting schedule. Planning to shoot 2 Full days from sun-up to sun-down.

I have loads of timelapse sequences in this piece, so the first day will be used to take the timelapse parts of the movie! Let's hope the weather will be fine! Seems like i will start shooting on tuesday! 19 Degrees celsius and sunny intervals. Seems like a good day with some nice clouds!

I will keep you lot updated!

awesome phil! glad to see another 15 year old filmmaker out there making their first BIG short. I myself am finally going into production with my left 4 dead short film, and I have a 3 day shoot. Today in about 2 hours, Tomorrow all day, and then a week from now.

I'm pretty damn nervous but i'll try to update everyone along the way!!

Best of luck to ya phil and please keep me informed on your progress!

DAY 2

I am currently sitting here, filling out all the shot lists, corresponding to the script. I am currently at shot 43, which is in the second half of the film already!
After I am done with all the shots in the list, I will go ahead and visualise by drawing a storyboard!
I will update over the duration of the day! There will be a summary at the end of the day!

It's an awesome process, isn't it? Looking forward to your updates and premiere.

Day 3

Sorry, did not post a summary yesterday.
So, here we are, day 3 now. Thats only 1 more day, till the first shoot.
So, what is the plan for today? Later today, at 6PM, there is a timelapse meetup with DSLR guru philip bloom. Perfect, isn't it? I can learn even more, before I use the method the next day.
So, today I have been drawing the storyboard. Later tonight, I will go through the shot list and match it with the shooting schedule, so I know exactly what I have to shoot when and where.

I have been talking to a gal at Zacuto, because we have been in contact for quite some time and she said that she will send the finished product to steve weiss and tries to get it on film critics. I only want it on critics if it's good though :D
Today, I have been shooting a completely different film as well, just to get me in the mood of shooting...

So, that's it for now.

If I don't forget it, I will be posting after the timelapse meetup.

-Phil, out

Okay, I did not shoot today, but I will be in London at 11am, so I can shoot some nice footage all day long!
There was some bad weather yesterday, so I decided not to go!
Tomorrow, there will hopefully be some slight clouds, so this will be perfect for timelapse!

I will have a friend with me, who will be shooting behind the scenes pictures!
I'll be sure to post em here!

-Phil
