The Documentary?

As a recent inductie to the Indietalk family i feel that it is my duty to inform the masses of any movie new that crosses my path. As such, I am compelled to inform my fello Indietalkers about a trailer of a documentary coming out in select cities that I recently seen on Facebook.

The film is a documentary called "Dumbstruck" and was filmed in 2007. The film revolves around the culture of ventriloquism and follows several ventriloquist or "vents" and their dummies. The concept of the film is a bit jarring, considering that the average person doesn't find anything appealing about a talking doll sitting on someones lap telling either lame or perverted jokes.

For me, I see this as an opportunity to learn more about a group of people and culture that I would regularly over look or even belittle. My definition of a good documentary is one that successfully portraies a new culture, ideal, or cause by being both entertaining and educatiing at the same time.

I for one think that it is interesting that someone felt the need to share this story/culture with the masses.

What do you think?

Check out the trailer on the facebook page and let me know what YOU think!

I was worried to click, as your "facebook" link doesn't have facebook in it. But, it worked (somehow...).

This looks like a really good documentary, and funny.

I may add this to Netflix queue some day.

It's possible that you may have made the most awesome documentary in the history of film. Unfortunately, I'll never see it.

A lot of people come around promoting their films. That's cool. We're all in the same boat, so it's always interesting to see promotion of a new indie film.

But when you pretend to be someone who's not associated with the film, and you're just so kind to sign up for membership and make your one-and-only post about the film, that's kind insulting to our intelligence. And so you've completely lost my interest. I don't know why so many people do this. If you would've just been upfront, I would've wanted to check it out.

This this this. We really couldn't care if you're promoting your own film - making the recommendation look like it's from someone else is just plain dishonest, and not even remotely convincing.

I agree.

If you are promoting your own movie I would gladly look
at it. But this "it is my duty to inform the masses" claim
just makes me suspect.

The claims of me pretending to be someone that i am not is ridiculous.
You judge me solely on the fact that I have only posted one trend?
Firstly...I apologize that I have not explained that this particular documentary is a closet passion of mine.
Most people that learn of my interest in ventriloquism either make a face, joke, or comment along the lines of "Why?, Your're weird as ish, and/or that Shizz is scary and freaking"
second...if the 808 isnt a hint...I reside on one of the smaller islands of the Hawaiian Islands...yes, we have internet....but unfortunately my internet at home is still dsl and doesnt work all the time...a lame excuse i know...but also, I have other things in my life right now that needs attending too like a new born baby girl, and rent, I apologize that my not having other posts on this forum makes me "suspect."
I came here to throw out another piece of info that i learned from the movies facebook page that i thought that some of you would enjoy.
Instead I come to wall of comments that scrutinizes me just because I only post one thing? or I personally didnt have anything to do with the movie? I apologize for not having the free time to constantly update stuff of blog about movies ive seen.
You guys are a real bunch of assholes.
grow up...not everyone is from Hollywood or LA....
Im a simple guy from Hawaii that wanted to help promote a movie that looked interesting...that looked like most people wouldnt give it a chance unless told by another person...
say what you want...but you guys are a bunch of ignorant asses.
Ill be sure to post more!
Asses!

Busted right there.

And stop the insults.

I do worry that as a community we're sometimes a little too cynical...

All the same this whole business is very confusing but, all things considered, I don't think any of the people here are assholes.

Wow!

You sure misread the four posts.

polfilmblog said it looks really good and funny.

Cracker said it’s cool if this is a movie you made, just be up
front about it.

chilipie was a bit harsher, but still said he would be interested
if you were promoting your own movie.

And I said this made me suspicious.

We do get a LOT of people who promote their movies pretending to
be a fan and not the filmmaker. It’s too bad that you chose to
call us names and accuse us of judging you.

After you calm down a bit reread what we wrote and understand the
context I think you will see we are not a bunch of ignorant asses.
We are not all from Hollywood ot LA either. And even those of us
who are are not assholes. We are movie fans who would love to hear
about a movie someone else is a fan of.

Name calling isn’t really the best way to join the indietalk family or
to introduce us to a movie you like, but we’re a forgiving bunch.
Care to try again?
