The Beaver

What is wrong with it actually?

I realise that it stars Mel Gibson and was directed by Ice Woman herself but the script was one of the most talked about in Hollywood for the past few years (I think it was on the Black List) and everyone loved the concept.

Now I should say that I haven't seen it and am aware that it has received not entirely favourable reviews and it seems that the execution was a little off but I'm not sure that on premise alone I'd be thinking 'WTF?'.

Havent seen it but one hell of a concept. Even if Mel hates blacks, jews, and women. He can act and sure as hell direct better than most out there at an actor/director/ persepctive. Now i don't know about Jodie directing. But nonetheless loved the concept.

litterly I just read what it is about and started to laugh out loud! that is litterly the dumbest concept. i dont get how they convinced the producers to do this.

Saw the movie before its theatrical release- fair, not great. Could have been better. But Gibson gives a decent performance, and makes the concept of The Beaver somewhat plausible. Never really goes as far as it should, I don't think.

Wouldn't recommend highly, but it's got a few moments.

Honestly I can't put into words exactly what it is about this movie I don't like. I haven't seen it, but just the concept alone makes me think, "Are you kidding me? Seriously? You're pulling my leg, aren't you?" If that wasn't enough, looking at the stills for it makes me cringe with embarrassment for the producers, actors and directors.

Even if this was a serious film with serious subject matter, taking it and Mel Gibson in it, seriously, is just too much for my sense of suspension of disbelief to handle.

A movie about a mental breakdown starring Mel Gibson?

Despite any obvious jokes about that, it does look like I might enjoy it. And Jodie Foster is rarely bad (Contact, we're looking at you. We're trying not to, but we are).

I watched it, it was ok, but a little too funny for a drama, and a lot too dreary and depressing for a comedy. Seemed like a film that couldn't quite find its genre.

Interesting concept, and some good scenes, but the movie didn't make me feel much or laugh much. 2 stars.
