Taking a first step

Always wanted to take my stories and put them to film, but life just took over and although I am still in the work force, i just feel that i need to follow adn do something I have always wanted to do. Glad I found this site. Have questioins and I'm sure if i look around I will find answers or at least someone who cna point me in the right direction.

Welcome, RJ. Yup this is the place. I completely understand where you are coming from - I am also in the work force, with a family to support but the pull of my inner muse is strong. I have learned quite a bit since I joined this site and I am most confident you will as well. Good luck and welcome, RJ.

Go through the old threads, use google, read and learn as much as u can.

But more importantly, go out soon and film something with whatever you have or can borrow. Just make a 1 minute short even if the camera you have access to is worth $50 and has no sound. That would be the first step.

This is pretty much exactly where I am at currently. I am 23 years old, in the workforce, but I have always wanted to direct/produce films. Whether it be short music videos or full length features, it's something I want to do, and am working towards. I'm getting ready to start my first full length script, in hopes of filming a very low-budget film when done. Ultimately, I would like to get to the point where I have something respectable to submit to festivals. I know it's a long shot, especially on my budgets as of now, but it's something that I want to strive for. ;)

Oh, I can fully understand. :D I'm still trying to research all of the best methods, legalities, etc. and I would like to get software (probably "After Effects") to mess around with on some shorts first, to fully understand it's capabilities, and get a little better with it.

Hopefully 8 years from now, I will be a full-on addict... :)
