I remember reading somewhere that the outlandish nature of 419 scams (Nigerian banking transfers and similar scams) is a sort of screening proceedure. For most people, it triggers red flags a mile high. But the few people who bite are more likely to bite on the later, actually profitable stages of the scam. They would get more bites if they made the intial contact a little more realistic, but they'd be the wrong kind of bites, as it were.

That's sort of brilliant, in an awful sort of way.

Hate dumb e-mails. i have question? can someone hack into your e-mail by sending you an e-mail and you clicking on it. I know some hackers will embed a link in the email and ask you to click on it but thats not the case.
I'm wondering if you click on the e-mail and open it that is sent by said hacker that the person would be able top gain access into your account

It is possible, but a fairly round-about way for a hacker to do things. Any serious hacker could access anything on your computer once you are connected to the 'net. It's easier for them to scam you in one way or another, however. What is most common is that hackers access your email address book. If you have a Yahoo! account, for example, the address book is not on your computer but out there in the "ether" world and very easy to access by a hacker. The hacker then sends someone you know an email from "you," your friend opens it and all sorts of interesting things could happen, anything from a virus to a worm to????
