Smoking Weed On Set

So, uh, kind of a funny question: If a character(s), let's say, is a smoker, either cigarettes or marijuana, but the actual actor/actress doesn't smoke, are there props such as tobacco-less cigarettes that can be used? Do they use vapor to mimic smoke? How do the pros do it?

dont show inhale\exhale in the same shot..
inhale nothing but air..

exhale vapour from one of the electric cigs, you can get "flavors" that have no nicotine or anything...

recast or rewrite

rewrite could be fun to have a character whose trying to quite, could go through all the motions but never light up..

On a related note, a Director friend of mine was telling me about a scene he shot where it was meant to be set in the middle of summer, but they were shooting in the middle of winter. It was one of those cold days where mist comes out of your mouth when you talk. They put a cigarette into the character's mouth, so it looked like he was smoking, rather than that it was a really cold day.
It fit the character, of course.

Don't. Allow. Weed. On. Set.

The pros either use real cigarettes or herbal stuff (Mad Men does because the cast and crew would have died already if not). Some films DO use marijuana and have the actor actually high, but it's another take at filmmaking as a whole (Easy Riders and Jack Nicholson, and it gave a great historical scene)
