script writing!?

I am as newbie as newbie comes
however, I absolutely love film and everything about it.
I was trying to write a script and I am totally void of any ideas.
I had a great idea of what defines the word "ugly" and the depth of that word.
how should I takcle this topic?
AND also,
do you all start with building the characters first and then the story?
and does building the characters first potentially help the process of coming with a story easier?
I NEED all the help i can get! THANKS
also, I am not a fan of too much arthouse of cinema. I like a mix of romance, excitement, adventure and commercial cinema!

That doesn't seem like a topic for a movie. It seems like a topic for
a term paper. Exploring the depth of a word is not an exciting plot.
Can you think of any movie you love that defines a word? That
explores the depth of a word?

Now if you can come up with a plot, a story about people and what
they do, a good writer should be able to include the theme of what
defines the word.

Now that you know your theme, what is the story?
