watch Schizo! Trailer (Watch it, if you have the guts!)

I smell a mocumentary commminnnng... !

You're gonna make a movie about me? I'm flattered.

I'm honestly very amused by all of this. Perhaps one of you can show me some of your brilliant works of art to give me an idea of what I should strive for. You guys are tripping over each other to insult me. How about showing me something instead?

Whether you love it or hate it I love to see what people think

This is what you said when you started this thread.

So, we watched your trailer and after we gave you our thoughts, you said:

Perhaps one of you can show me some of your brilliant works of art to give me an idea of what I should strive for. You guys are tripping over each other to insult me. How about showing me something instead?

You ask for criticism then you whine about it after we serve it up. A bit of a hypocrite, aren't you? You're quite undeserving of further guidance.

IDOM -- no, the video isn't particularly shocking in any way. But if you were to replace the word "schizo" with a racial epithet, wouldn't the whole thing be REALLY offensive?

I'll admit that I'm particularly sensitive (for personal reasons) to the issue of how the mentally-ill are portrayed, but I think the only reason this video isn't so universally recognized as offensive is because perhaps the people who are being targeted are already marginalized, both out of sight and out of mind.

Anyway, c-film, you're full of shit when you act like you're surprised by the negative feedback you're getting. You're a troll of a filmmaker. You've aspired to make movies that are about pornographic rape, and every film I've seen of yours is one that is clearly designed to push people's buttons.

Congratulations, you pushed our buttons.

No.
I'm considering making one mocking that trailer.
Actually - two: One that makes an equally poorly shot mockery (FWIW, I really could care less about this particular gross thematic inaccuracies, but do understand the issues others have with it), and a second to show how it could be done better.

I'm honestly very amused by all of this.
Please don't be distracted by the vitriol over the trailer.
If you pay attention you'll note that it's mostly the incongruity of title vs. the suggested story that's causing issues.
Write a story about a schizophrenic.
Write a story about someone with undefined mental health issues going on.
But you probably shouldn't write a story titled 'Depressed' which portrays a foot fetishist on a bender. WTF?!

Make thematically and subjectively offensive films by all means. Gopherit. Knock yourself out.
But at least learn how to shoot it well.

My fave of what I've shot: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qouw2YHmDlQ

Something of the same vein I shot a couple years ago. http://vimeo.com/31818695 password "destroyer"

I think this would be a heck of a lot less offensive if you removed the opening title proclaiming that what followed was a "realistic account of schizophrenia". No, it is not realistic. Not even slightly.

It's sort of a convention of the genre...Reefer Madness proudly proclaimed "What Really Happens!" on the poster. And they did it WITHOUT irony. I do understand emotional buttons (and my views on mental health stigma are probably not dissimilar to your own) and how that can negate that sort of thing though.

Anyway, I didn't like this one as much as some of the others ("Pit of Despair" is still a favorite of mine), but it had moments. Too many shots of blank walls made it seem less exploitation and more home video. Some time spent working on sets could make it a little better and still keep the "realistic" thing you're going for. Maybe some sort of image filters to make it look older, to give it that Mondo vibe? Dunno. You can't go too over the top with the acting on this sort of thing, and I like the narration, though it could be more so. Maybe narrating about depravity while showing something that is very clearly not?

I definitely get that - but that's also related to what I'm saying. No matter what word you replace 'schizo' with wouldn't change the fact that the video itself just doesn't look very interesting. He's clearly trying to do 'shock cinema' but without the chops to back it up, and I just don't think it's worth reacting to the words he uses to describe it. I doubt many people will watch it, and I really don't think the few who do will come away thinking they've seen a "stark and realistic account of schizophrenia". In fact from what I can see he seems to be having difficulty creating a stark and realistic account of two people talking on the phone.

I thought you wanted feedback. I think that you are making fun of schizophrenic people, and trying to get a reaction out of us. I also think it looks poorly made. That's not insulting you, that's responding to what you asked for.

Whether you love it or hate it I love to see what people think.

And if you haven't looked, a few people are already posting stuff (including me)

And Chimp...

Thanks! That is not me, that is my friend Dillon. He is 13, I am 12. If you'd have any more questions, I am happy to answer them. If you want to see how something was done, I can do a tutorial. And if you'd like, I'll give feedback on your shorts.
... you're the baby around here.
Kids your age get abducted, raped then killed or killed then raped, thrown in dumpsters, swamps, rivers, forests, bushes, and whatnot all too frequently.
If your parents are lucky your body is found.

Be smart.

It's kind of sad that we've given Op the attention he wanted. There are some fantastic shorts on here, that minimal people watch (or minimal people comment on), and I think they really deserve this kind of attention.

It's funny you mention the home video thing. I actually had that in mind... Something like a trailer that came on after Traces Of Death(Not to be confused with Faces) on video in 1994 or something.
Sets and locations are def. something I'm going to utilize more of in the future. Also the reason I didn't use any grainy filters is because I've seen it done a lot now.
But anyway, in the next year I may be able to sink some $$$ into a project without any financial repercussion. I promise the project will be wall to wall sleaze... Perhaps MONDO DEATH would do for a title and project?
Thanks for the feedback, you're the type of dude I strive to make movies for!!!
