SAVAGES and LONDON BOULEVARD

2 movies 2 compare side by side... theme - contemporary gangster movies...

Just viewed SAVAGES on the big screen -- directed by Oliver Stone (written by Don Winslow). Then went home and watched (on our big screen) LONDON BOULEVARD -- (written and) directed by William Monahan (also wrote screenplay THE DEPARTED based upon Infernal Affairs & BODY OF LIES from David Ignatius's novel of same name).

Both were very good, although the 'colorful' British accents did distract at times in LONDON BOULEVARD. I do not want to give away spoilers. But both were unique in their own right. Directors went for 'realism'... casting was solid, stories were strong but uneven in places. I like the getting away from constant bang, bang, bang... seen in some movies. How can you top SHOOT 'EM UP?

Anyone else see both movies and care to comment on realism in contemporary 'gangster' oriented thrillers?. Is this a trend for future thrillers? Leaving the constant bang, bang explosions to super heros (THE AVENGERS) and spies (upcoming BOURNE & BOND)?

Just asking...
