Renting Cameras with owned by my production company

Legal? Of course. Buy, sell, rent... that's called trade.

You need to make sure they have equipment insurance worth the value of the camera if you want it to be protected.

Since you own the camera, you draw up the terms of the rental agreement.

You set pricing, and all other requirements. It would probably be a good idea to require insurance, and might be a good idea to provide a camera operator with the rental of the gear, that way you know it will be in good hands.

Another option might be to contract with a local rental house.. The big cine related rental shop by me has (or used to anyway) several independently owned cameras available to rent out, so presumably, the owners are set up on some kind of consignment plan with the rental house. I don't know the particulars as I was only ever a renter, not providing my gear to be rented.

A rental agreement is a great way to cover you butt. I don't know the value of your camera, but you need to think about a deposit or a way to take a credit card just in case your camera is damaged, lost or stolen while rented. You can require insurance, but that will cost money to the renter and is not cheap. Don't expect to get the same rate as rental house because you are not a rental house and have the technical staff to maintain the camera like a real rental house.

TY for responding guys. I really appreciate the help.

One thing, when i was forming my LLC it asked what my buisness was. I responded with (creating content for film and television). In fact, it was a selection. One of the other selections was camera and film equipment rental. Since i did not register as a rental facility, in NYC, will it still be acceptable legally? I know this is a tough question.
