"Casino Royale" didn't even have any Bond music, therefore, it's not one of the best. That's like making a "Star Wars" movie without the "Imperial March".

I agree that Spiderman 3 was not that great. But I think it did have some good parts too it. The dance scene in the bar really did not work for me. The parade thing was not that great eaither. But other parts were interesting like the fight with the sandman and drama between Peter and his best friend. But I never liked the fact they invented a new guy that supposedly killed his Uncle. The venom idea was cool. I think the film would be better with a little editing and maybe tweeking. I bet there is fan edits out there that are much better to watch.

In my book, it's not a bond movie, without this music. You can work it into all sorts of different styles of music, but that theme has got to be there.

Yeah it would have been better if they did have the classic theme too. Maybe Slash could play guitar for it. I would love to hear a classic GNR version of it.
Live and Let Die by GNR would be a good song to use in a bond film it is a cover song. The original song was in a 007 film in 1973 called Live and Let Die.

Probably the most notable "remake" is "The Prisoner of Zenda", 1937 and 1952. The script and the score are exactly the same, and the sets and costumes are fairly close. The biggest difference - aside from the cast, of course - was that the 1952 version was is color.
And if you really want to argue about remaking/retelling how about the numerous versions of "A Christmas Carol"? There are at least four versions that are truly excellent even if they do wander from the original book slightly.
Or how about the various retellings of Robin Hood, or King Arthur and Camelot, or even Cinderella? Then, of course, there are several versions of "Mutiny on the Bounty".
A remake/retelling that should have been excellent, and really bombed in my opinion, was "The Day the Earth Stood Still"; nothing but a lame CGI-fest.

Alcove: I think that The Day the Earth Stood Still remake could have been better if it was made as a semi-sequel to the original.
In the original Klaatu leaves Earth leaving its fate in our hands, but warns us that if we don't change our ways willingly then we will be annihiliated. The new Day the Earth Stood Still could have been Klaatu returning to Earth because we didn't change our ways at all.

Gonna veer off topic:
While watching “Casino Royal” I felt the same way. No Monty Norman
theme, no John Barry theme, not a Bond movie. Then, at the very
end of the movie, Bond says the famous line and the Norman theme
starts.
And it hit me: that guy was not “James Bond” at the beginning of
the film. The story was a “reboot”, the James Bond we all know
became “Bond” right at the end. I gotta say, I was quite impressed
by the choice and it's now my favorite nonConnery Bond film.
Interesting; there is no "Imperial March" in "Star Wars".
For the record, I do like the movie. It's just that the lack of proper Bond music irks me.
I see your point, and if "Casino Royale" were a stand-alone film, that would totally
make sense. However, if that were the intent of the filmmaker, then we should've
been treated to some proper Bond themes in "Quantum of Solace", yet they were again
absent. Really chaps my hide.

Quantum of Solace was pretty terrible and not the sequel to Casino Royale that we all deserved...
However Casino Royale was an extremely intelligent reboot. Every time anyone asked his name he would say 'James Bond', when someone asked whether he wanted his Martini shaken or stirred he says 'does it matter?' and at no point does the Bond theme play.
Then in that final scene it all comes together and it shows that now he is 007...
