question about being a producer

What is the difference between a regular producer and an executive producer?

Or what about a line producer ??

Typically a producer is on board to help create the project.
An executive producer can come on board after the project is already finished and help to find a distributor or provide financing.

I'm sure there is some nuanced scenario that will contradict me but this is one pov.

What is the difference between a regular producer and an executive producer?

They're different jobs. The position of executive producer is fairly easy to define. They do one of 3 things. They're the one (there can be multiple) that either supplies the funds for a production or sources the funds for the production. Sometimes you will see people with Executive Producer credit that arranged some key critical element that was needed for financing to happen.

The producers job is a lot more convoluted. Their primary job is typically putting the package together, curating the project to get a return for investors.

Some producers are hands on, where others just put the team together and step back.

As the producers level, it's not all that cut and dry.

Money. One has it, the other doesn't.

Sometimes, but not necessarily true. Not all investors are executive producers. See above.

help to find a distributor

There seems to be a term that's starting to be seen is a PMD. Producer of Marketing and Distribution which seems to be a better fit for this.

When it comes to getting distribution, a production can be hitting a wall and be more than happy to give whatever credit that is requested if that person can secure distribution.

Producer who invest money.
CO- producer ,who invest along with producer.
may be 50- 50.

Executive producer?

Less percentage than co-producer.

1-20% .

If movie does profit, all get the share based on percentage of investment done.

FINANCIER?

He finances for the movie.
he lends money to producer or production company in return for interest/ commission.
No matter how much profit a movie does, financier is not going to be part in profit sharing.
Even if movie goes doomed , financier still gets promised interest amount.

In short movies, situation arises when started movie might about to get stalled.
to avoid it , actors of that movie them self go on to finanace for producer to finish it.

Here, producer finds/convinced movie not suppose to do very well, then he trickily convinces the actors to become executive producers instead of financiers, so that he may not have to return them money even if movie doesn't do well.

In short movies,
there are instances , where people who get main role become co-producer with 30-30 % investment.
and co-stars , may be ...if 4 persons, they go with 10% investment each on their side.

I f actors are totally interested in building their showreel and profile strong , then these actors are seen mostly as executive producers trying to help out producers and themselves.
