Checked the site. Generally people get annoyed when they see the welcome page...so i personally think it should be avoided.
About us page is very simple..very very simple...and honestly speaking the design is boring.
The shot films page is better because of color combinations of black and grey . Over all you need to concentrate more and the design and color combinations. If you have made one then make it attractive for people. The site looks incomplete without team member names and little details..and very very incomplete without separate contact page.
sorry if you didnt liked my views. But it is what i have read so far from e-marketing point of view

:) by the way kindly tell me you paid some money for designing the website?? if yes then how much?

Hope it is not a business secret :)

No we did the whole thing ourselves, first ever website build. So looks like we have a few tweaks to make, but you never learn anything if you have someone else do it for you! :)

looks like a long debate :) but still the fact is no one can learn every thing. Other wise the whole world would have been independent for everything. BUt the fact is Human beings have different abilities and every one cannot do every thing and therefore everyone cannot learn everything, though one can try !

I will agree with you wholeheartedly! Nobody can learn everything thats a fact. Personally though I love learning so I like learning every aspect of something it makes you more diverse as a human being and I feel like the more I know in general knowledge the better it will help me in future endeavors. Thats my opinion. :)

I think using a website editor for the site may be a bit overkill. There's almost more code than content in the pages. I've been developing webpages since 1991 and still prefer to code by hand as the editors produce crappy code (IMHO). It's not that hard to learn either and gives you much more control over your page and your audiences experience.

The list of shorts looks good, the About us seems a bit light and the welcome page, I agree with ad2478. It's also too large for my laptop screen (the welcome page). The first page should have all of its content "above the fold" (newspaper-talk) unless it's content rich, which the welcome page is not. The "Enter Now" text is just barely showing at the bottom of my screen.

Other than that, template pages tend toward "pretty" as they are professionally designed to look relatively good with just about any content plugged in. However, the following code would replace your current 74 lines of generated code in a much more efficient manner (an embed would even allow your matrix sound bite without resorting to all kinds of client side scripting and extra network connections.

Code:
<html>
  <head><title>Welcome to: "L.I.F.E."</title></head>
  <body bgcolor="000000">
    <center>
      <hr width=60%>
      <img src="topimage.jpg"><p />
      <img src="midimage.jpg"><p />
      <img src="botimage.jpg">
      <hr width=60%>
    </center>
  </body>
</html>

And I believe one person can know everything... which I why I'm trying :) I'm no where near there and never expect to reach that destination, but I'm sure going to try!

the line at the bottom on your main page should use "too" instead of "to". The "we had fun" is a separate sentence. "but if you don’t that’s cool to, we had fun!" should be "but if you don’t that’s cool too. We had fun!" granted, I am not the best with grammar, but that's what I noticed. also the welcome page is not very useful unless you plan to put content there like talking about your latest project. on the page with your projects, you should include when they were made not when they were posted. I think that would be interesting to know.

my first impression regarding the "about us" story is that your story is not much different from most filmmakers, so talk about who you are more specifically and why you make films (like a manifesto of sorts). Include some shots of you behind the scenes!

Content-wise, try to figure out what your goal is for the website. For instance, it seems like you want people to know who you are so you start with the about us on the main page. I think that's a good start, but your goal is also for people to watch your videos. Try putting together a reel of your work or a trailer for your latest short and putting that on the front page to get people's attention and to make them want to watch more videos.

For my documentary's website, my goal was simply for people to watch it online, so on my first page I just simply embedded the video. I could have just had a welcome page linking to info about the movie and our crew and then a link to the video, but first and foremost I just want people to press play and get interested so I chose to put it right on the front page, with additional video built further into the site.

Its your first shot so obviously, good start, I hope you are finding this thread helpful!

I don't know how to design a website so I will not give any suggestion on that, but looking at it this is what I thought. The first page was a bit boring and short. I would suggest some still pictures which were taken during filming, or something that deals with L.I.F.E. Also, your explanation of the group was really brief, but, don’t get to wordy either. Page two was fine. Page three was a bit boring and the E.T. picture had nothing to do with what you folks had shot (well, the 4 vids I quickly watched). The website had a basic set up which was easy to navigate. I do agree with others, page 1 and 3 needs more content which is interesting and grabs your visitors.

As for the vids, had a student film feeling with the look of the image and story. Maybe your group should experiment more with sound and lighting. Started to watch the documentary but kept fast forwarding because I was not interested. But the important thing is you folks took the time to shoot the footage and had fun doing it. Hopefully all of you can learn more in the future to take a better shot and work with sound.

Best of luck and keep it up!

Thanks guys for all the input seriously, we just revamped the site taking all your critiques into consideration! I really appreciate all the help!

As far as the critiques on the shorts what do you mean a "Student Film feeling?" The one listed as first I can understand one of our groups first time directing and editing. But the others are all a bit more serious. They arent like features or anything and none of them are scripted. They are all just us getting together coming up with an idea on the spot shooting it in one night and editing it the same night. All in practice to be able to enter some 24 or 48 hour film festivals. Just wondering how we can get away from the student film feeling cause im unsure of what that means.

I tend to find pictures of gear somewhat boring. For your main photo, you might consider choosing an iconic still from one of your shorts...something that sums up the quality of your work.

Sound and lighting are a big key in any production. When I first joined this forum a sound engineer welcomed me and I responded to what he said.

"Sound is half of the experience" <- He said.

Spoken like a true genius. ; ) <- I said.

In any good film, you should be able to listen to the sound track only and still understand what's going on. As if you were listening to a radio show.

As for lighting (and sound for that matter), it takes time and practice to get it right. I would read up on it and see what will help your group.
