Predict as many (or as few) as you like. I would reiterate that these are not necessarily my favourites in the category, they are simply the films that I think will win. If you remotely care about my favourites of the year click here.

I'm probably in the minority, but the only one I pay attention to is Best Animated Feature.

I agree with Toy Story 3-was very pleasantly surprised at the depth of a "sequel", an animated one particularly (mind you we are talking Pixar here :))

The rest of them-I can't keep up with them anymore lol

Sound Editing - True Grit
Sound Mixing - The Social Network

As a sound expert I will defer to you on these categories. However I do think (and slightly fear) than Inception is going to mop up in the technical categories.

And I think everyone under the sun agrees that Toy Story 3 is going to win the animated category. My question is: is this Pixar's last year for a while? Or can Cars 2 fulfill their quota in 2011?

"True Grit" won both sound editing and mixing awards from the CAS (Cinematic Audio Society), but I feel that "Social Network" deserves the mixing award; the dialog in some of the scenes had to be heard in very dense soundscapes and still sound real. A lot of my peers were in awe, as was I.

I've been wondering the same thing. Not so much from the perspective of wondering if they will win another Oscar, but wondering if Cars 2 will suck like it's predecessor did. I've enjoyed most Pixar movies that have ever been made, but I've really been a fan since Ratatouille, and I can't help but worry that their extreme string of success might finally come to an end with Cars 2. Let's hope our worries are wrong.

Oh, except I forgot to answer the original question.

I don't follow it enough to predict anything other than the "big" awards (actor, actress, director, film, screenplay, etc.). In those categories, Nick, I think your predictions look pretty solid. I agree, this might be the rare occasion when best director goes to someone who didn't get best film. However, I'm thinking maybe Aronofsky gets direction and Social Network gets film.

I think the chances are practically non-existent, but I'd love to see Toy Story 3 win best picture.

I'm going to tune in and out. While I'll eventually see most of the films, Hollywood has bored me for years.

Pixar is the only company that's been releasing exceptional work.

Last night I watched It Happened One Night. Where is Capra and Riskin when you need them?

no care for these awards, just look at the track record of what movies have won awards these past 10 years. Not saying I would not want to win one lol but dont really watch the oscars or globes. Cannes and Sundance in my eyes are more interesting

I think I am the only one who was disappointed in Rattaouille.

As far As Cars
What hurt for
me with Cars, was that (there's that P word) POTENTIAL: I would LOVE to have seen them really stretch out the "Time leaving all behind" storyline, and forget about making the big "race" or at least diminishing it. I would have dug the story a lot more.
I can't say I'm "thrilled" at a Cars sequel.

Finding Nemo has yet to topped on MY list for Pixar Films (although Wall-E and Up came close-maybe it's because of my life and view, but Up REALLY hit home for me).

But that's .0000000000002. :)

You're not alone, as far as Ratatouille is concerned. My mom couldn't get past the rats-in-the-kitchen grossness-factor. I tried to remind her that they washed their hands. I'm a career restaurant-worker, and they nailed it, as far as the behind-the-scenes stuff is concerned, so I'm sure that helped with me.

Along those lines, my better half HATES Spiders to the point that she can't watch any scene in any film, even a few seconds-without heading to the toilet to lose whatever meal she most recently had!

Didn't know you worked in the restaurant, so I could understand how you would "get" that. Even though I'm not "old" physically (mid age) I really identifed with the old man in Up with the whole life thing, and having kids made me identify huge with Finding Nemo :)

So yea, depending on your life experience, and that's part of Beauty of Pixar films, is they resonate, regardless of age :)

This is the worst Oscars I've ever seen. I actually feel embarrassed for Anne Hathaway. She's trying so hard, and Franco looks and acts like a lump. I wanted to cry for Kirk Douglas. Matthew and Scarlet looked like they just came out of the rain. No one is funny and the speeches seem endless.

Well I played a drinking game where you have to drink every time you get it wrong.

See my list at the top for details on how drunk I am...

Very disappointed...

Ernest is back!

My roommate thought Franco was high, too, and my roommate is uhh, umm, an expert opinion.

Good to see ya, Ernest.

Thanks, good to be back. I was extremely busy. I just recently moved to the States and had to set some things up.

So anyone surprised by Inception getting best cinematography? I thought The King's Speech would earn it.
Pfister's work was great but was it just me who like Speech's better?
