PopTent Questions

I know a few of you guys have submitted assignments for PopTent. I noticed one must 'accept' an assignment in order to get full disclosure (the Creative Brief and Assets files) on the assignment. What happens if you accept the assignment but after reading the remainder of the material, you decide to opt out? Is there some sort of blacklisting on your profile?

Thanks in advance!

You do not have to participate following your acceptance to an assignment. Alot of the assignments have 20-30% accept to submission rates. Although it is preferred ofcourse.

Up until now, i didn't happen to believe it had any ramifications. However, i'm lead to believe that soon it will, that it may tarnish your chances of being invited to "Invite Only" assignments. (Selected candidates asked to work for brands, $200 just for submitting, fewer competition etc) But on the whole, minus this, many will still accept and not participate.

We've had to do it ourselves numerous times, due to time constraints. So don't worry about it at all.

Poptent is a fine community to be apart of, Bird. I would highly reccomend it. Especially with what i've seen of your Doritos ad. Amazing work.

Thanks much for posting, Paper! It's good to know I can filter through a few without hugh repercussions. I'll definitely try to accept those which I'm best capable of completing. At this point, I can only do animated pieces since I've no other equipment. So the time constraint, as you've mentioned, would also be my biggest obstacle.

Much appreciated, sir!

Not a problem at all :)

There is a distinct lack of animators, on Poptent. I was only saying a few weeks ago that there are a number of ads that are better suited to animation than live action. "Sour Patch kids" being the most recent. So personally, i'm stoked you're joining up.

How do you think you'll find the time constraints? (The average is around 28-30 days)

Oh, the Sour Patch kids sounds like it would have been fun to do! Thank you for your encouragement, Paper!

I can do 2 seconds a day in my spare time, comfortably. Sound is my biggest time and cost issue, though. But I think I can find away to reconcile this. :D

Then you should be quite alright!

I do have a Foley/Sound design guy, who we work with regulary on the terms of a percentage if purchased by the brand. I couldn't praise him highly enough, I'd more than happily put you through to him if you'd like.

Just let me know.

Excellent! Thanks again, Paper! I'll peruse the assignments. Hopefully I can participate and will definitely contact you in regards to your sound person.
