Perfect location

just wanted to share my excitement of finding PERFECT location!!

i was looking for a good looking house where for an exterior scene, i had i had this specific image burned into my brain of the neighborhood and the house that i wanted to find. I want very extremely clean perfect neghborhood with picture perfect lawns and freshly painted houses

come to find out, one of my coworkers just moved to brand new house in developing neighborhood. She showed me the picture: every house has brand new paint, and brand new lawns!


i begged her if i could shoot there. She agreed to let me shoot outside and inside, but for that i ll have to mow and water the lawn :)))

so excited!


going today to take a closer look at the house, and take several pictures..

What does the location SOUND like? Near a freeway, airport, train station, Oregon Trail, racetrack, iron foundry, jack hammer testing facility, etc? For a recent feature, I had the director find two "perfect" locations, both completely unusable for capturing dialog, and therefore, consuming 28 + hours of ADR.

I think i've opened bottle of champagne waay too early..

talked to the neighbors of the house about me "filming a short student film", but they all were complete d**ks about it! I guess some folks are too concerned about people walking with cameras around their neighborhood .

Tried to explain to them that their house is not even going to be in the shot, and they got nothing to worry about, but I was threatened with cops "if one of you punks even think about filming something next to my house!"...

I think they might be growing weed inside the houses or something haha

I'll keep that location in mind though, and will look for something non-threatening and bit more filmmaking friendly :-)

one location closes, another opens up!

Just check with your local film council about it. Usually, you don't need permission to take video/photo of anything outdoor. As long as you are not making loud noise, or blocking road, or putting the camera right against people's bathroom window, even if they call the cops, the cops can't do anything about it, because you aren't doing anything illegal.

What? They have no right to do that. Just ignore it. And when you wrap, tell them to go F themselves.

Let them call the cops. You are on private property with the owner's permission. Just stay out of their yards.

Don't worry, your a citizen now. They can't deport you for making movies anymore ;)

It's easy for all of you to say shoot anyway, but think of the coworker. She'll still have to live there, so it'd be best not to create a situation where the neighbors end up calling the cops.

Call the cops FIRST and let them know you're shooting, then they might not even send a squad car out.

If the neighbors do want to be dicks though they could always blast music, drive laps around the block in and out of the driveway, invite friend's over for a party. Sounds like a lot of work to be a tool though haha.

Don't let the neighbor know what day ahead of time.

I will talk more about it to the owner of the house about this, and will write notices for neighbors, and post them around neighborhood.

sineater: thats exacly what im trying to avoid. She just moved into the house, and i dont want to be reason of her neighbor conflict.
i ll talk to the guy, explain him everything what we re doing. Who knows, maybe he will ever offer some help :)

all in all, this is not a big deal.

Also, found another good location this morning.
Will keep it as a back up.
