Damn. That was nates idea too! Although it says they worked on it for 5 1/2 years.

Wait, what? Emilia Perez was about a trans woman?
All I saw was Zoe Saldana as the main character and all I heard about was Zoe's dominican roots 🤣🤣🤣

Not joking.

But speaking of mexican films about slice of life transgender style, I personally enjoyed Bad Education (2004) 7.4 IMDB rating.
The ending was wild. It's rated 2 full points higher than Emilia Perez at 5.4

Unlike years past, I guess I have to see these movies now, after the fact. Somehow I'm a little embarrassed about that, lol.

OK Watched The Brutalist on HBO, and happy to see serious, ambitious, complex, smart, etc. stuff can still get made. Great historical world building, and yes, great acting from Brody (and, years later, still think of The Pianist as one of the most moving and memorable things I've ever seen.) I liked it, was engaged all the way through. Cool to watch a movie you actually have to watch (as opposed to just having it on while playing solitaire on ipad).

I don't know much about architecture, and so found myself reading some about Brutalism, and the movie was a profound look at the zeitgeist that created it, as well, of course, as the history itself. I think it's a profound contribution, like Zone of Interest, to Never Forget, which, one gets the feeling, is being forgotten, or even worse--minimized, or of course, despicably worse than that--denied.

I did find the dramatic turn a little . . . I guess, much. But that's probably me. I felt the same way about There Will Be Blood, which most people think was great.
