Oscar Picks

Uncharacteristically for me, I've seen quite a few of the nominees, so I filled out a ballot with my personal picks plus my predictions on who will win. Please share yours, too!

Since 2002 I have worked the show - followspot operator. For the last 5 years
about 40 of the crew have gotten together for a Oscar Pool. This year we have
62 people - each putting in $10. The ballot with the most right takes all.

I'm sitting in the basement of the Dolby Theater waiting for my cue to head
all the way to the top and my followspot. I will have to pass 16 checkpoints.
I expect all you to notice the amazing followspot work...

Oh how exciting Rik, will be thinking of you as I watch haha.

Unfortunately I haven't seen enough of the films nominated (about 50%) to actually have a fair vote.

That's an awesome job, like Miles said, ever since reading that you did that I do think of you when watching the Oscars. =)

We had an Oscar party tonight and placed bets. I got 19 out 24 and won $210. This year seemed a little unpredictable to me but I ended up picking the most wins.

Btw, the followspot was the best I've seen to date.

follow spot ? Is that the light from above that follows people ?

Sound mixing was awful though. We barely heard Adele behind the basses..

directorik, that's a pretty sweet gig. Consider me jealous. :P

I didn't make any picks this year, though I did watch, and I thought it was enjoyable enough. Hugh Jackman is still my favorite host, but McFarlane got a few chuckles out of me with that opening comedy bit.

So, am I the only person who thinks that both "Gone, Baby, Gone", and "The Town" are far superior to "Argo"? I'm a big fan of Affleck, but I kinda think the accolades heaped on this film are more Hollywood political type of stuff, like he and his film had been anointed new king. I don't see how the screenplay is so amazing; to me, the entire third act is piss-poor boring.

Oh, wait, I forgot that the Oscars love a good circle-jerk. Last year, "Hugo" and "The Artist" received similar treatment.

Dready, I enjoyed comparing your votes vs. your picks. Some of your picks were wrong, but your votes ended up winning. I have to admit that while I'm clearly not a fan of the Oscars, I actually did like a great deal of the picks they made this year. I was glad to see Adele win, and I really think Life of Pi deserved all three of the awards it took.
