nudity.

so my film calls for nudity of both male and female characters. I've been digging around online and I can't find nada that actually answers my question:
How do I approach it? How do I make them feel comfortable about it? Is it Legal? or does it require special paperwork?
I'm almost ready to start casting so any help in regards to my questions above would be excellent and probably save me a ton of time!

I shot a movie that had 4 actresses doing topless nudity. Each and every one of them had previously done nudity. Two of them were even porn stars. Had no problems with any of them.

The only problem I had was that one actress, who wasn't even in any of the nude scenes, got upset that there was nudity in the movie. So just let everyone else know.

In my film, only two of the primary actors knew there was any nudity in the film (we're talking "R" here). I didn't tell anyone else. Heck I didn't even know myself until after I edited together some convincing scenes in post.

The one thing we haven't discussed is the importance of having a professional atititude and a great website. Without these two, you might have a hard time recruiting people wanting to appear nude. On the website actors could look at photos view a trailer, read a production diary and see the names of production/crew/cast members.

Legally they probably have no redress afterwards if it's another scene in the movie (that they're not in). The reason to tell them is so that they don't quit if and when they see nudity on set.

Sure, some actors may agree to do so but most would do so because they're very desperate (for those IMDB credits).

Put yourself in their shoes, how would you feel?

As others have suggested you can have a sexy scene without showing 'anything' - that's what I would do. It's better for your movie, and better for your actors.

I had no problem doing a nude scene for free, cause I though it was in good context, and thought it made the scene more effective for the material. Not sure if a lot of actors would feel that way though and it would definitely depend on the material as well.

Fair enough. I had a look at your profile, you're a guy. I'm sure not all male actors feel the same way (not that you said that). Do actresses feel the same way?

I asked my partner. She's a writer/director and actress. I told her about this thread and she says (to para-phrase): some actresses would do a nude scene for zero pay but it could haunt her later (career wise), and given that so many actors are desperate for work, some would say Yes because they're desperate for that IMDB credit etc. If the actors have no problem with it then fair enough (they're all adults as another poster has said) but many do have a problem with it...

As others have said, a sexy scene can be done very well without any nudity.
