Newbie here to the film industry..

Hello My name is Janelle. I am slowly starting my filming career. I am a publisher as well as an author.
I was a Literary Agent for many years before my "Publisher Contact" turned her publishing company over to me two years ago. During the time I have been reading, learning and watching the filming industry.
I am the author of Internet Fatal Error. Which is based on a true story of internet stalking.
Trust me was not a pretty sight. I was asked by a producer if I would consider Internet Fatal Error to become a feature film. Which is why I studied filming after that.
Thank you
Janelle

Welcome, Janelle.

I watched your slide show. What market are you going after with this as a tool?

Basically the early 20s- 30s area. Unfortunately, online stalking occurs wth any age of any gender. This particular stalking happened to a male in his 30s. Its happening to teenagers as well.
So its pretty much a open market area. If that makes any sense.

Welcome Janelle!! I saw your youtube...is this for gaining finance for the film, getting interest in the book or getting interest in the film?

Chris

Sorry. That didn't make any sense to me.

I understand that online stalking happens and that your story
is about this. I'm wondering what market you are going after
using the slide show you made. Are you trying to sell a screenplay?
A book? Are you hoping to get financing for a movie?

What are you trying to get people in their early 20's-30's to buy
using that slide show?

I'm a little confused as well.

From what I understand, you've written and published a book called "Fatal Online Error" which you'd like to see become a film.

You've created a slideshow trailer to pitch the concept.

What I'm not sure of is whether you have a screenplay and you're pitching for a producer... or you've got a book that you'd like to see optioned.

My guess is the second... because this kind of pitch seems to be about selling the idea.

Am I about right?

Anyway... my gut feeling on what I've seen so far is as follows:

1) The title really doesn't work for me... derivative of "Fatal Attraction" ... so, based on that alone I immediately think (direct to DVD... exploitation movie... bad script/bad acting)

If I was giving any advice at all about this, it would be to ditch the title and find something new and fresh.

2) There isn't an original hook in the concept as it's presented... I don't get an idea of who the characters are and why I should care.

In general a movie pitch runs ... this is my protagonist and this is his world/ this happens and turns his world gets turned upside down... this is the struggle he has to undertake to survive/win

The key to that pitch is understanding the characters involved... and despite the popular idea that a picture paints a thousand words, it's just not true.

3) Finally... based on what I've seen so far I wouldn't choose to go to a cinema to see this movie, or rent it from Blockbuster or change channel to watch it... (but you must understand that this isn't a criticism of your story... which might be fantastic... all I'm saying is based on this pitch I'm not interested)

Maybe I misunderstood. I am sorry. Unfortunately, I hurt my back and I am on those Lortabs so please excuse my not making sense. I finished the book already, I am now looking into creating the feature film. I pretty much am starting from scratch- finances, screenplay(although most of it is complete), and production team.
The slide show was just to introduce the book. Does that make anymore sense?

Well, you're getting there.

Medication aside, if you can clearly articulate what your intentions
are with this slide show, you'll have a better chance of getting some
useful comments.

I found the slide show way too slow to generate any interest from
me. The photos are fine, the copy is interesting, it just doesn't get
me excited about reading a book. It almost felt like a chore to
get all the way to the end. And that makes me wonder if the
book itself is like that.

And if I were to look at the slide show as a producer it doesn't make
me want to make the movie.

I agree with clive. The book itself might be fantastic, the subject
matter is compelling, but your slide show pitch doesn't generate
any interest from me.
