New at this and I need HELP!

Hello all! My name is Kilo Sade and I'm from and live in Kansas City, Missouri. I've recently got an idea to do a documentary on local gang violence/murders in my community and the local 'lack' of solving the problem.

This is my first documentary and I'm clueless as to where to start. I've brainstormed an outline on topics that I want to discuss and it's about two pages. My main questions are on equipment I need like mics and lighting, how to add music to the film *not needed till the film is actually made I'm guessing*, lightening equipment and so on. If anyone can give me any pointers are even know someone in my area that is willing to lend some expertise I will GREATLY appreciate it.

I also have been researching copyright info as well. I think I have the hang on that but if anyone else knows anymore information on copyriting documentaries please feel free to chime in.

Lol, ALSO when it comes to interviewing people should I have typed out consent forms for them to sign? Idk if that's the usual situation but it felt like a good idea. Thanks in advance guys!!!! ;)

Welcome Kilo!

There is a LOT of information right here on the boards
about all these things. Take a few minutes (careful! it
could turn into hours) looking around. Most of the day
today several of us have been helping dvdguy on lighting.
Look at all the topics with "mic" or "microphone" in the
title. Alcove Audio is usually quick to answer in great detail.

I also have been researching copyright info as well. I think I have the hang on that but if anyone else knows anymore information on copyriting documentaries please feel free to chime in.
How about some specific questions. Just chiming in might
be a waste of time for both of us. If I spend time telling
you what you already know...

Have fun looking around and feel free to ask more question
in each thread you find.
