Need to Make a Character Explode

I need to make a villain explode for a music video. He gets hit with an explosive dart, and boom baby. This happens in a dark tunnel or something similar.

The character is in a sort of Mad Max'ish outfit, like a post apocalyptic gangster, and right now my idea involves possibly making like a human shaped balloon or something similar, dressing it like the character, filling it with debris and whatnot, and filling it with compressed air until it pops.

I don't want it to be overly bloody and gory, can be more like a burst of smoke/debris and his clothes and limbs just fly apart indistinguisably.

Any ideas for how to do this?

Nice! That's very cool. I don't think I'll be able to use real explosives though, certainly not if we end up going legitimate with our permits/location.

For around $45 - $65, you have your footage. Just add a guy screaming. I bulge/warped my wife, with After Effects, as she exploded. But you can just overlay and dissolve, using any editing software. You don't need After Effects, but it's a nice touch.



Btw, the guy who blew my dummy up is a licensed pyrotechnician, Jimmy Gingsumrong. He does many indie movie effects.

I'm not familiar with his work. My biggest influences are John Carpenter, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Tangerine Dream, Depeche Mode (especially Alan Wilder), and Nirvana. I composed this very quickly. I wanted a domestic and comical feel that ramps up when the shooting starts.

Well I loved it. for me it was really dreamy. 1:58 - 2:48 is the part I'm referring to.
