Need help in the scriptwriting

Hi Guys

We are like 8 people planning to make a movie

We plan to make a mystery/comedy or cop show movie

Can someone help me out with the ideas for the script?

Or is there any forum where I can look for the ideas etc?

Thanks

Hi. You mean to tell me you and 7 friends are determined to make a movie and NONE of you can come up with an idea?

Well, the easiest cheat method is to take two movies you like and combine their idea.

But I strongly suggest you take the time to read a few good books on screenwriting.

Start here:

There's far more to making a good movie than coming up with an idea. There are billions of ideas, and very few good movies.

Now if you're just having a good time with friends, why not just rip off a movie that exists? Solid way to get a good idea is to just steal it.

There are hundred of thousands of screenwriters out there with no way of getting their scripts made.

It seems to me that eight guys with the determination, skills and equipment to make a movie and one script writer with an already completed script would be a match made in heaven.

You might start by looking at Simply Scripts

They have a whole section called "unproduced scripts"

However, just because they are unproduced that doesn't mean you can just help yourself to whatever you find there and make it, without forming a contractual agreement with the screenwriter.

I'm not saying you need to pay them... just that you have to have their written permission, showing that you have acquired the rights to make the film and making an agreement about payment, should the project make any money.

Good Luck.

If no one in your group has a real knack for writing, you may run into trouble trying to make a mystery or a comedy -- writing tends to be key to the sucess of those generes. A cop/action movie might work well, and horror is usually pretty easy to conceptualize. If no one is comfortable writing dialogue, think about telling a short story with visuals only.

As WideShot said above -- if you are just starting out and trying to get some experience, take a few ideas from other movies you like, change them around, combine them, rework them, and come up with your own spin on it.

I’ll help.

I don’t think there are any forums where writers just write out
their ideas for others to use. Writers like to use their own
ideas to writer their own scripts.

Howver....

You can come up with ideas from many different places so let’s
explore the “cop show” movie.

Name 5 cop shows you have seen.
Tell us the one you like the best.
Tell us the one you don’t like at all.

After you answer, I’ll help you with some ideas.

It also helps to know what you have available for your movie.

Think about the locations you can use.
Think about the props you have available.
Think about the actors you can use.

Well, the dialogue needs a lot of help. It's best to "hear" it for yourselves. Have everyone pick a role and read through the script. You can even record it. Listen to how it "sounds" and ask yourself, does it ring true? Is that the way people speak?

But, then,
if they're just a bunch of whack jobs fresh out of the looney bin,
then I guess it doesn't matter, huh?

Format is probably not your biggest concern at the time, but the software Celtx ( http://www.celtx.com ) is free and made specifically for script writing.

I'm glad you're just doing it. Too many folks think this craft is unachievable. We're all here to tell you it's not... you just have to be crazy to do it... we all are, we should know ;)
