Movies which where more than action Movies

Movies like die hard , the A team and Salt have lots of explosions, a decent script with little twists and turns and a lot of remember able punch lines. But then there r others like the Matrix which arent like your average action movies, cause they deal with a wide range of themes another example i think would be the transformers ...

I think the reason movies like the matrix are on a whole other level is because they bring to light ideas and thoughts we've never conceived before. Imagine I told you something that would blow you out of the water, a way the world worked you had never imagined. Consider Inception, I LOVE the idea of entering someone's subconscious, planting ideas etc. It's a thought process that is out of the box and makes people stop and think...wow...that would insane if that were true.

I think that's what puts these movies in a whole other league.

I would like to mention Equilibrium as being in this same catagory. The thought portrayed being that when the wants of the few outweigh the needs of the many, something is wrong. That it is more desirable for a few to choose to serve so that the whole may be better for it. And there were some good fight sequences as well...Too bad it wasnt marketed :( Favorite quote from the movie: But I, being poor, have only my dreams;I have spread my dreams under your feet,
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams

THE ISLAND is actually a reimage of the made for TV movie PARTS: THE CLONOUS HORROR. The TV movie is great. I recorded it years ago on my VCR, since it was a late night movie.

I gave away my DVD copy of EQUILIBRIUM after watching it once. I couldn't get into it. And, it can't hold a candle to THE MATRIX.

I like the black and white episode fo THE OUTER LIMITS called I, ROBOT as well as the OUTER LIMITS remake of the same episode in color made decades later better than the big screen movie. Both OUTER LIMITS versions followed Isaac Asmov's original story a lot closer than the Will Smith movie.

I think the main difference between the Matrix and the other examples like the A Team is that the Matrix is not strictly an action film. I would say that what made it interesting is actually more science fiction.

If you are looking for some action flicks with more, check out the sci-fi section of your video store. I would recommend Star Trek: First Contact, if you haven't seen it. As well as the new Star Trek movie.

Well if Dready's in, I'm in. Good call on pointing out Abram's "Star Trek".

"A-Team" was a fun movie. The openning bit, with the dogs, and all that, just plain fun Summer Blockbuster Popcorn Flick, and it held that energy for the duration of the movie. However, I understand and agree with why you left it off your list of "Movies which where more than action Movies". That's because it doesn't have a story. Not one that pulls the audience in, anyway. Also, I should mention that I was super, super stoned when I saw it.

The list of action movies that are more than action movies is long -- too long to even try and cover here. Because most of them, like Dready pointed out, aren't action movies. "The Matrix" is a brilliant sci-fi. It also happens to have some badass action. "The Bourne Identity" is the best spy-thriller ever made (in my opinion). It also happens to have kickass action. "The Fugitive" is the best blah, blah, blah, you get my point.

What all of these movies have in common, no matter what genre you want to categorize them in, is story. A successful film has a story that grabs you and won't let go, and that's just as true for action films as any other genre.
