Most important factor

All right all right. Lets talks about something extremely serious and least mentioned topic -- FOOD

What do you guys feed your crew on a full day of shoot? Anything in particular that people should stay away from eating during the production?

Make sure to find out if anyone in your cast/crew has food allergies (i.e., peanuts) and/or is a vegetarian/vegan.

I tend to have a lot of granola bars, crackers, pretzels, etc that are easy-eats. They are available throughout the entire day along with pop (caffeine), water, lemonade and/or powerade.

I stay away from heavy foods that may give people stomach aches.

Usually have specific coolers filled with sandwich meat, buns, etc. that people can eat throughout the day as well. Ordering pizza, grilling, BBQs, etc are always nice :)

I stay away from a ton of sugar or anything that slows people down.

Water. Tons and tons of water. You can't bring too much water.

If it's cold or early/late, coffee. If it's hot, Gatorade. I'll try and bring a few energy drinks too. Trail mix, bagels, granola bars. Stuff you can grab, take with you and not make a mess.

For the actual meals, $5 little ceasars is great. If you have someone dedicated to craft service itMs always best, they can run and pick up food, cool off set if needed, etc.

If it's a small crew and you can mange it, try using real dishes. Little stuff like that makes everyone a bit happier, even if they don't consciously realize it.

This past weekend, we served BBQ for lunch and pizza for dinner, with crackers, chips, and plenty of water and soft drinks on set. Honestly, we plan to stay away from pizza from now on, at least from Papa Johns. It caused, well, a few delays during the shoot. heh

The most popular thing we've ever served is a deli tray of meats, crackers, and cheeses. Our crew devoured that. It was cheap too.
