Morphing Effect

I was wondered how the effects for one person morphing into another worked. Is it a transition?

Hi,
The effect from X-men , is a very complex effect. Lemme explain. They had to scan both the actors bodies in 3D and then make sure their topologies matched, i.e. they were basically the same model deformed to look like two different characters. Then comes the 3D shape morphing which was done in Maya using blendshape tool. But at that time Maya was relatively new and they had to come up with a MEL script to use animated texture maps to do the reveal.So they could control which part of the body is morphed first and so on. I think Kleiser-Walczak studio did that one. Today with some free MEL scripts something like this can be done , I am sure.

The second one looks a warping tool used carefully with some quick fades between slightly differently warped footage. Doable in AFX with some effort. Sorry don't use FCP , so cant help but if it can do warping then it can do the second video.
