Turner Classic Movies has just begun broadcasting their own fascinating 7 part documentary called "Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood."

http://www.tcm.com/moguls/

The first episode was last week, called "Peepshow Pioneers" and covered the years 1889-1907. At one point, when discussing the multitude of short subjects being produced by Thomas Edison, the narrator (Christopher Plummer) said something like "camera technicians and Menlo Park lab stenographers all jumped in front of the camera to take part as actors, everyone helped out and chipped in simply for the fun of it. There were no individual and specialized jobs yet...everyone available shared many roles in cranking these short films out."

Wow...it's now over a hundred years later yet they could be describing how many of us here on Indietalk spend our weekends.
